Training him defence also helps his ability to follow those mids forward instead of handing off so he just sits on them 100% of the time he is on ground.

A lot of taggers switch to another target if the player they are targeting goes forward.

E.g some teams put effort into Daicos but when he goes forward they hand the role over, whereas we want Mullin to keep on his ass all day long
Yeah true. I guess when I said I didn't like it I meant more on match day in terms of it leaving us a bit more vulnerable and Oisin less effective (which were Art's complaints). So I could empathise with that while still seeing it served a longer term purpose too. I generally back Scott in because he is a freakin' genius (although of course makes mistakes like everyone).

Ask and you shall receive. The app will show you every stat he racks up within the passage of play it's in. Make sure you select extended rather than highlights to get the 11 minute video not the 2:20 one

How did I not know that was a thing...

It's been life changing for me. Been around for years too. Used to be a bit buggy, because they literally just take the timestamped stats as called and skip the game footage to x number of seconds before/after. If there was a mismatch in the times you'd just get the wrong passages for all players that game.

Insanely good resource and totally free to all

I found it fascinating what Bartell and someone else said about taggers and their teammates. Wherever the tagger and taggee go, the rest of the team adjust to play slightly different roles or positions to accommodate the tagger and his job.

I think Knevitt was an early victim of experimentation on this. Can't remember which game but we were tagging someone and the tagger had to follow, but Knevitt went to where the hole was. Yet to learn one role well enough let alone two so he kept getting lost when it changed and looked awful.

I feel like it might have been last year against the pies but I'm struggling to remember

Being part of Scott's version of "learn the job of the man above you and teach yours to the one below you" has to be a steep learning curve.

I enjoyed watching a few of these clips - the conversation you're talking about above starts just after the 1 minute mark of this clip

Why does it only work on mobile though? I can watch the vids on my phone but the feature disappears when I browse the stats section on my laptop.

PSA Addendum: the footage goes back a fair way, and you can only look up current players

For example, i was tragically unable to pull out the showreel for GHS's magnificent match winning goal in our stirring 2017 come from behind win over North, so you'll have to settle for Patrick Dangerfields 37d, 1g, 3 vote performance, which was pretty good too i guess.

Within the embargo period, maybe (like how casting is disabled), the AFL can only show match footage on small screens (i.e. app only). The bigger screens come under the purview of the various Licensees.

Once the embargo period is up (don't know the exact time delay), the AFL do make whole match replays (geographically-restricted) available online (app & website).

Maybe the stats vids appear sooner (i.e within the embargo period). Hence the restriction to small screens. Just a guess. The simpler answer is that enabling stats vids, through the website, after the embargo period, is probably on some whiteboard or Jira as a low priority task. It would certainly be handy for those blow-by-blow YouTube pundits (those coach-wannabes!)..

So the underground GHS Fan Club still persists? I have forgotten the secret codes, hand signals etc.. Luckily, I still remember how Dear Leader looks like.

So your telling me that when Danger retires i may not be able to look up his games.... Absurd if they go that route to save a bit of money

In fairness it's a feature of their stats pages which is limited to current players.

Probably be pretty straight forward to get them to add the backlog of the mighty fish cowan though because I'm pretty sure they just store the game footage once and the actual "highlights package" data is just a list of timestamps
