Malthouse used to talk about the cardboard cut-out ruckman when Steve McKee was playing. Maybe we take that avenue with Dawes as a key forward too.

EDIT: Sorry if in the wrong place, but the most appropriate thread was closed.

distaste for jolly and can't get past it. You've even said yourself you didn't rate his 2010 form which is so ******ed it's funny.

Next you'll tell us malthouse was a shit coach! Oh wait...
Don't re-wrote hjistory. Jolly was very ordinary in the first 10 rounds of 2010 to the point that some of our more fickle posters were lambasting our efforts in trading from him. 10/26 weeks is quite a substantial period in the year.

FWIW, Jolly was massive in the finals but sometimes I think some of you blokes have short memories....

Not sure if relevant to this thread but my early opinion on tooves was so far wrong, it's not funny. I probably only came around at the end of 2010.

In fact my opinion has changed so much that from wanting him delisted, i now have him as one of the first players picked and probably one of our 10 most important players. No-one on our list can shut a player down like Tooves can.

So sorry Tooves.

Your point would be valid, except Ed as said his 2nd half of 2010 was no good...

No secret he took a while to get going that year.

We should start the "I was right" thread. As I posted during the week, I was so confident we'd win it wasn't funny . Tipped it and had $2000 at 2.60 on Betfair . Thank your mother for the rabbits. I should add, the 9's I took for the flag 5 weeks ago also seem to have disappeared

A gutsy bet that resulted in a well deserved win!

I'll give you a hint. We haven't had a ruckman since Monky left.

We were thereabouts in premiership contention for 5 out of about 9 years but always struggled in the ruck.

Then in 2010, Jolly arrived and we won the Premiership. Then he got injured in 2011 and our unbeatable side became beatable. ( granted a few other injuries occurred too)

In all fairness, we have also been missing a hard in and under mid since Tony Francis, and we were all crying for one, we get Luke Ball and win the flag.

I can play that game too.

Also remember, we had a very new, very unique gameplan that I'd argue was more responsible for that flag more so than the recruiting of 2 players.

Now don't misinterpret my words like sooooo many of you love to do, I'm not saying the recruiting of Ball and Jolly had nothing to do with the flag, I'm saying the press was the majority factor in it. I'd argue that we stop would have won that flag without one of Jolly or Ball.

Fair enough, Toovey has always been a good player except his disposal was so bad that it removed all of his good defensive work.

This year, although he's not an amazing user of the ball, he doesn't turn it over as much. In which I'm quite surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but sure his spot in the limelight will happen this year.

Ed, they had one of the Adelaide assistants (I think) on SEN after the game and even they admitted that Jolly outplayed (sauce) Jacobs, and that they would be going over the tape with him during the week very closely...

They wanted Jacobs to get a run at the ball at hit to advantage, but Jolly just didn't let him.

you can play that game, but not very well.

Scott Burns played a lazy 250 games as a hard in and under mid, or don't you rate him either?
Cheesy O'Bree's 227 games weren't a bad contribution either.

Pretty fair to say that most good judges of footy were wrong. I have no problem with it and am actually quite stoked about it. It's rare that I pick against us but any nutbag would have seen that the odds were stacked completely against us. You always hold out some hope but the almost universal elation from Pies supporters tells you that it was an unexpected win.

Yeah i think Tooves has learnt his limitations. He is still very ordinary kick but only kicks when he has to and even when he does kick now, it is usually to a contest and not a direct turnover. So hence his decision making is probably the big improvement.

Just on Tooves, you barely notice him in a game when watching on tv, but then you rarely see his opponent either and that means he is doing his job.

I will also admit i was wrong about the result against crows but i definitely got more confident as the week wore on. By game time i was almost confident of a win but was very confident by quarter time. Our pressure was superb.
