Searched for a thread on this and couldn't find one.

Had my first encounter with someone affected by it last night in sleepy Terrigal of all places.

While waiting outside a shop with my mate for our wives, this young punk with the obligatory tattoo sleeve comes up to us - never seen this like in my life - asking me what my problem is.

He was rocking back and forth, I was carrying a plastic bag so I put it down, in case I needed to defend myself.

As I did he took a swing. I fired back 2 quick ones and layer him out. There was an ice cream shop next door which had young girls that just competed in a dance competition. Must've been scary for them.

My mate went around the corner to the cop shop which is usually un-manned, but luckily enough there was s a Dog Sauad (Pound Puppy) officer there.

He came around, radioed for an ambulance and old-mate started to "rise from his slumber" as I was giving the Dog Swuad bloke my details.

Anyway this bloke just jumped up like a shark bit him on the arse and took off down the street, away from people, but with a good shiner and a broken nose.

Hopefully the young punk learnt his lesson.

Has anyone here had issues/run-ins or family members even using this hideous substance?

It's not great stuff, very easy and pretty straight forward to make. You really have no target, Most of it is made out of random kitchens for personal use.

I've currently got one family member who's in rehab for Ice/Alcohol, This is a guy who earned 90k, HAD a wife and a young family While he wasn't a psycho he just couldn't stop using the stuff and everything just fell apart from him , It'll take a good 6 months to detox and get back to normal, then the rest of his life to stay off the stuff.

Because it's so cheap/easy/affordable to make it's almost impossible to police correctly, education and social programs will be the only way to kind of attempt to lower the numbers of people who's lives get ruined by this shit

I like the idea of minimum sentence of 20 years for anyone manufacturing it.

That penalty will be a big deterrent than the current 5-7 years that gets bandied about.

I'm glad I left the police force before it made its way to Australia. Couldn't imagine how hard it would be now.

.

I don't like the idea of collapsing our prison system fighting a symptom rather then the cause. A lot of heavy Ice users develop psychosis so an idea of deterrent is pointless

If no one makes it...

I don't think it's anywhere near as widespread as the media and government are reporting. The latest research figures I saw had usage at 2%, with around 15% of that figure being dependent.

No doubt that consistent and long-term use will cause problems, especially if mixed with booze and other drugs. The well made stuff from the major cities probably won't do too much harm if used in moderation. However the bathtub stuff in the regional areas is the big worry (especially when there's a lack of support services).

Some interesting reads:

You take beautiful and useful "drugs" like MDMA and DMT and make them illegal: you inevitably have something horrible raise its head in their place.

Ice is exactly why a war on drugs doesn't work.

i know he's an idiot and all but did you really have to leave him with a broken nose?
couldn't you have just pushed him onto the ground?

Yes,the numbers are huge,I live in a rural area and the amount of people over the age of 40 using this stuff is staggering. It has consumed western victoria and isnt slowing down.
Interesting couple of beers with my local copper the other day.He said the amount of so called "good citizens" on the stuff would shock most people,He also said the up is fine for 18 months maybe and then the downfall is huge and all consuming to a persons life.
Amazed that so many of my outer circle has tried or is into this drug.
American agencies told us about the unbreakable meth cycle heading our way and Australian authorities actually ignored the health warnings 10 years ago.
Anybody thats interested, the wave hasnt even hit us yet,its only started, with people of all ages {yes 12/13 in some cases}in usa prostituting themselves for 10 dollars.Aussies think this wont happen here, but it will once the giant wave actually hits the community.

ive heard talk is absolutely rife in a rather big company in our area
they changed the drug policy there to be completely random and no second chances i believe

again, a country area where there is pretty much nothing to do except go to the pub or watch some local footy
of get in a car and act like an idiot, which we seem to get quite often

couldn't you have just pushed him onto the ground?
only for him to get back up and do something the group of kids (10-15 year olds) and their mums or worse, my mates pregnant wife?

cause the way on drugs worked so well in america

Brother's really, really bad on the stuff. Absolute nightmare to live with, don't know how to help him because he refuses to go to rehab. Is paranoid, and delusional as anything; thinks he can bring our Dad, who died a year ago, back to life, thinks he's cracked a CIA code and that everything in this world revolves around our families heritage.

Never, never touch the shit.
