Welcome to the Inaugural Memorial Delonte West-Gloria James South Beach Cup

...or just the "South Beach Cup" for short

For those unsure about the league name, this should make it a bit clearer...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/20/calvin-murphy-lebron-jame_n_583135.html

League rules will be filled out before the draft starts but so far we have...

Dynasty League
12 team
Standard 9 Cats
PG, SG, G, SF, PF, F, C, C, UTL, UTL + 4 Reserves
No Injured Reserve and no extra slot for Euro players (i.e. if you drafted Rubio then he takes up a spot on your roster regardless if he plays NBA or not).
First draft will be a snaking draft determined by a random number generator.
Seperate rookie draft every year (excluding the first year where anyone can be drafted). Two round rookie draft per year.
Non-snaking and draft order determined by reverse ladder position (i.e. you finish last you get first pick in the draft). If you haven't been active though you get last pick in the first round.
Guys not on team rosters can also be selected in the rookie draft also.
You are allowed to trade draft picks one year ahead (i.e. if we are in the 2010-2011 season you can trade a future 2011-2012 pick but no future picks past that year until the next season)

Tanking and Absentia
If for whatever reason a manager does not set his team for an extended pariod of time as assessed by the commissioner a player may have their first round pick for the following year downgraded to the last pick in the frst round as punishment. If inactivity is ongoing, a manager may lose his team. This may be due to lack of activity or due to "tanking". Tanking is purposely not setting your team (or your best players) to lose each week.

Inaugural 2010-2011 DRAFT

Draft Rules
  • People can trade picks and players etc during the draft but you must end the draft with 14 players.
  • As this is a dynasty league I am going to be pretty strict on trade veto's etc. Need to get this thing started as evenly as possible imo.
  • To draft a player you need to post the player name in this thread when it is your turn. i.e. Pooh Jeter
  • No editing or deleting posts once you have drafted someone. Bit like the real thing, once you call the name then the player is yours.
  • You have 24 hours to make your pick and after that you will be given the next player off the busersports.com ADP report. Miss two picks in the draft at any stage of the draft, you lose your team.
  • If you are going to be away for some reason you need to send me a list of ranked players to pick from so the draft can still continue.

OK, if you are still interested, the people mentioned above just need to claim a team in this thread and the spot is yours.

I'll give people three days to confirm and then I'll start getting the draft together.

How could you resist such a handsome man?

blidda, you'll need to create a yahoo! profile but don't worry about doing that until they open fantasy basketball for the year. That'll happen in about another month.

If you have a yahoo! email address then that all you need.

i thought the resemblence was uncanny:p

yeah cheers mate, will do:thumbsu:

I thought of another idea. See what you think.

One danger with this league is that the star players won't move around too much. That is the Lebrons, CP3's, Durants etc won't be on the market.

One way to get around this is a trade deamnd rule.

Basically every off season everyone picks who is the best player from each team. the concensus of this becomes the 'franchise players' of the league.

Then using a random number generator by an unbias third party three teams are selected and their franchise players 'demand' a trade. So the team much facilitate that trade by trading them to another team. People should still get true value for a traded star player but it does mean at least three of the best players in the league are moving every off season.

I don't know if I made it sound more complicated than it is but it would be simple to do and wouldn't be too much work for me

Let me know what you think. Not fussed if we don't do it.

Wouldn't a standard salary cap and contracts solve that. When they become a FA, the best offer signs them. Allows any team to have a shot at grabbing any FA.

Obviously no contract extensions and stuff like that. Just a basic cap. And say a max contact of 3 years. With say a 10% increase on salary each year.

I'm ok with either idea though.

EDIT: actually that would require more an auction type draft as initial salaries would be pulled out of nowhere. Scrap that idea.

I say take the highest and second highest Yahoo ranked players at the end of a season from each team and have two drawings. That way your best player might stay, but your second best might go and force you to change your strategy. But the issue would be with the trade itself - what if no one can get fair value for the trade-demanding player from the other teams? I can see it creating a merry-go-round effect with the three teams essentially switching best players.

i think if the team losing a player cant get a fair trade, that they should keep the designated player. maybe this could be managed by the third party? they could determine whether or not that it is a fair trade....i do agree with the merry go roung affect though, if lebron and durant are offered up, whats stopping teams just swapping?

Yeah I like it too :) Raff's idea that is.

I'm definitely against any type of salary cap or contracts though....this league needs to be simple.
