So I guess the war will last for years then. Great for the US and the arms manufacturers. Not so great for the Ukrainians.
The war hasn't been great for Ukraine, regardless of it's length.
Wars are s**t. Best to cut them short if you can. Too many nukes around to risk a miscalculation.
So your suggestion is essentially give up. Xi and Putin love this .

Thats a great ideal to have, safely tucked away on the other side of the world.
Id imagine id leave that decision in the hands if the people most affected. Ukrainians.

The United States of America don't give a f**k about the Ukranian people. They are treating Ukraine as another Afghanistan and supplying arms and weapons to prolong the war as long as possible for three reasons: 1. To weaken the economy of Russia just as in Afghanistan. 2. It's great for the American Military arms manufacturers and therefore the American economy. 3. It's good for promoting the putrid lie that America is for freedom and democracy and the upholders of decency.
Cluster bombs are criminal, right up there with agent orange and to say that it's OK for the American's to supply cluster bombs to Ukraine makes us as bad as the terrorists.
NATO is an extension of American Foreign Policy and Keating is absolutely correct that they should not come within cooee of the Asia Pacific region. It is called NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and has absolutely no place in the Asia Pacific region.
NATO, or more to the point the USA, have played a major role in provoking Russia into invading Ukraine by the Americans and Europeans completely ignoring Russia's concerns over many years and that their feelings of being threatened and intimidated increased dramatically by NATO'S deployment of troops along the Russian border, the biggest deployment of troops along her borders since the Second World War. Then, the straw that broke the camel's back, Zelenskyy, the glove puppet of the far right and their international backers in the Ukrainian, said that they wanted to join NATO and Russia acted.
Please note, do not take this post as anything other than a cold assessment of the situation and not as a defence of Russia's invasion of Ukraine which I do not condone in any way.

Why do otherwise very decent progressive people allow their hatred of the US and ( in some cases anglos more broadly) to colour their logic so much that they support the propaganda of vile dictators like Putin and Xi who are the antithesis of their own beliefs. No one is saying US is perfect but Putin is lying and twisting facts to justify his criminal invasion. As an example, NATOd largest build up on the border since ww2 - 4000 troops in response to requests from small nations terrified by Putins aggressive acts in comparison to Putins 330000 troops and his invasion of Crimea etc.
