The Inevitable War - Keating goes bang

All before Xi turned pyscho and militarised the islands stolen from the Philippines, started the largest military build up in history (outside actual wartime), attacked India, threatened Taiwan for not allowing themselves to occupied, implemented crimes against humanity in Xinyang, oppressed Hong Kong, reinstated some of the most oppressive internal laws in history, started disappearing rivals etc.

Except the USA spends double

The sub deal is a waste of the money we could be pumping into a 26 million missile policy. A missile for every man, woman and child in Australia, individually monogramed. If you even think of coming near this island we'll sink all your ships and shootdown all your planes.

Landing on Taiwan which is literally next door to China already proves a difficult task for the Chinese military, but the neo cons in Aus will have you believe they can come all the way to Australia and land on our shores

This is like the bear patrol from the Simpsons

Modern war does not have to be expensive. In fact, it is not expensive.

Ukraine is destroying Russian tanks by the 100's with relatively cheap shoulder launched weapons and attacking troops with retail drones holding grenades. Russia is too scared to commit their fighter fleet to the conflict because it is too easy for Ukraine to shoot them down - instead they are raiding washing machines of their microchips so they can build more drones themselves.

What is the point of expensive military hardware if it can be destroyed in an instant with cheap hand held weapons.

And this will apply to maritime assets soon enough as well.

What we are doing is beyond dumb. Instead of building capability to defend Australia we are buying a capability to support USA maritime blockades.

And in two years Trump probably gets back in, restarts America First and then where are we?
The best way to defend australia is to kill off the carriers before a fleet gets here.

Do thst and the fleet turns around and goes home.

The absolute crux of any invasion fleet is your carriers. If you dont have them your invasion fleet is nothing but targets.

You cant just fire a tomahawk at a ship - doesnt work like that. You need targeting information.

Guess who can help with that……

These subs aren’t to defend the Australian continent from an external invasion.

They are to threaten and choke off Chinese shipping and trade if the US decides to neuter China.

It was a difficult task back in the 1950s

Xi has said he will reclaim Taiwan in his lifetime, by dipolmatic means or by force

Hey ultimate ruler Putin, do NOT move on Ukraine

Well s**t.

Hey ultimate ruler Xi, do NOT move on Taiwan

Well s**t.

It's almost like totalitarians will do whatever they want.

Some of those bases don't exist anymore or have never existed (such as the one apparently in China according to that map and the ones where there is no actual land) and they are all by invitation of their hosts- who are requesting more thanks to Xis aggression.

Whereas as Xis are on illegally seized territory of ASEAN nations and rapidly growing.

I think eventually you will get the war you so desperately want.
But you think you will be able to sit at home, watch it on the TV and cheer on America as if its a harmless football game
And when you finally wake up to the reality of what you cheered for, it will be too late, you will be dead

How do you get the idea I want war? I want to deter war, appeasing dictators like Xi is what starts wars.

PS. Scummo was an idiot the way he spoke played into Xis hands and aggravated the situation- Albo and Penny are playing it much better ie. we want to be friends but expect Xi to act in accordance with international norms and won't pander to over the top demands.

So your way of deterring a war is for Australia to sit 5 Attack Class Subs off the Coast of China
What if China responds in the same way to either us or the USA?

You not only want a war, and are fully supporting the method in which it is likely to start, its just that you are not bright enough to realise it

Trump is the main reason i want australia to be independently capable of our own defence.

Trump wont stop arms sales - but hes just as likely to tear up any defence treaties.

Keating correctly calls Albanese incompetent and calls out Wong for agreeing to the deal to make Labor a small target at the election.

Keating took aim at Albanese for saying elsewhere that he was “very proud” to have provided bipartisan support for Aukus within 24 hours.

The only way you could make such a decision – with its huge cost and implications for international relations – is “if you have no perceptive ability to understand the weight of the decisions you’re being asked to make”, Keating said. “It’s what other people call incompetence.”

The defence minister, Richard Marles, countered in conversation with my colleague Daniel Hurst that the party didn’t decide “from scratch”, he was already “deeply immersed” since 2016 in the strategic thinking about submarine capability.

Still, Keating said that Albanese had “no mandate” to agree to Aukus, predicting that when Labor branch members cotton on “there will be a big reaction”.

Doesn’t matter what Keating says 80% of Australians are happy with it and.behind it , your little echo chamber in here isn’t going to change that.

Not so sure about that.

Let’s see what gets cut in the federal budget. The Liberals papers are stamped - they do not represent the Australian people.

Albanese might have just stamped Labor’s papers as well.

Be really unpopular if they just went after tax dodging multinationals. We could oay for subs AND ndis / medicare / etc

That is totally incorrect. You're referring to 80% of xenophobic Murdoch news watchers.
The sale was done behind closed doors with no consultation or debate with Australians.
It costs $15,000 per person in Australia, it breaks nuclear treaties, it will be obsolete when finished and the only use of them is to spy for America.
It will stimulate an arms race, there will also be a cost blow out.
Put all that to the Australian people and they will quickly see how farcical the whole thing is.

Stop with your shite Australians are right behind it the ones that aren’t are Greens supporters that hate everything Australia stands for anyway and no one takes notice of.

Isn't it weird that many posters, who in most things are relatively progressive, want to push us into a war that will ultimate end in our total demise.

FFS it right there in the name of the class of the Virginia's....They are an ATTACK class
They will sit off the coast of China, they won't be patrolling Australia waters, they are an Offensive weapon
