I think its rookies that are yet to play AFL that are eligible. Hence why Cockie and Wilson weren't selected, yet Strijk was.

Injury list as of May 24

Kerr (hamstring) 7 weeks
Masten (knee) 4 weeks
Neates (finger) 2 weeks
Glass (abdomen) 1 week
Hansen (hip) test
Stevenson (hip) test
Houlihan (foot) available
Jones, B (arm) available
Shuey (knee) available

Glass out for another week...

Gives Wilkes another chance to hold down his spot. Regardless of how well Wilkes does I don't think there's much chance of him keeping his spot when Glass is fit, unless he's going to be tried at FF.

Whats the deal with rookies upgraded through the LTI?

I remember last year we visited this issue. When a rookie replaces a LTI player, and that senior player returns, does the replacement rookie need to be relegated or can any of the other upgraded rookies be downgraded, i.e. If Hams replaced Houlihan, can Stevenson or Sullivan etc be dropped back instead?

Houlihan has two more weeks on the LTI list if i counted right he has been on for 6 weeks. He was elevated on the 15th of April.

I was thinking the same thing then I was wondering maybe he was already on the long term injury list well before we elavated Hams. Has been out a while. Hope he can start playing wafl immediately.

Here's an article from 7 April saying Houlihan was put on the LTI list the week before.

So he may have done his eight weeks already. Here's hoping.

Hams will probably get dropped back to the rookie list, though it'll depend on the extent of Stevo's injury I guess.

Rookies upgraded due to a LTI are quite simple. Rookies are linked to a specific LTI player, once that player is ready to resume the rookie that is linked to that player has to go back. So if Hams was promoted for Houlihan, Hams goes back. Just on Sullivan, he is a "nominated rookie" - meaning he was elevated before the season because you didn't have 2 vets. In short, seeing as he isn't a LTI upgrade, he will stay on your senior list for the entire season.

Doesn't matter when Hams was elevated, as the 8 weeks refer to the LTI (Houlihan) not the rookie, under the rules you could've promoted Hams for Houlihan last week and he'd still have to go back this week. All that matters is Houlihan has completed his 8 weeks on LTI - they put him on there at the conclusion of Round 1.

So it is dependent on who the elevated rookie replaced?

If, for example, Stevenson's injury was serious enough for him to miss a few weeks, would we still have to put Hams back on the rookie list because he was elevated for Houlihan?

either way under the new rules you are able to premote one rookie mid season(can't remeber which round) so if 1 does get dropped back to WAFL there is a good chance they will be back in a week or two anyway.

I had a feeling that was the case, can anybody else confirm?

Hopefully Shuey will be ready to push for a spot in the 22 in the next couple of weeks.

In 4 weeks Houlihan has moved from listed as 6 weeks to available, must be really fit, probably play half a game of WAFL reserves this week im thinking ?

So the question is can you elevate a rookie to cover for an injury to an elevated rookie?
No do-overs, if an elevated rookie gets injured, they get injured. Tough luck. The only way you can demote a rookie is if they were elevated to replace someone on LTI and that LTI player is ready to resume.

You can't call "splitsies" due to injury or poor form (meaning you can't promote Stevenson for 6 weeks and then switch him out for Strijk for 2). You can't demote that rookie if they do an ACL in their first game, or you make a mistake (you promote someone for the sake of promoting someone instead of promoting someone that will actually play in the AFL side that week) and then want to promote another rookie that is in better form than the guy who actually did promote.

Can any Eagles/WA guys shed some light on Shuey and Stevenson. Has Shuey been names to play WAFL this week? Steveson has a hip injury? Both players look to have a bright future and showed good signs early in the year, surely Woosha will get them back into the senior team when they're fit?

Cheers.
