Movie The Irishman

While I love all the actors, Pacino, De Niro, Pesci...I don’t think they worked, they looked way too old for the roles they were meant to portray. Were they meant to be in their 20’s during part of the film, because they came off being in their 50’s. I think younger actors would have worked better.

I don’t think De Niro as a hit man worked either. He just didn’t seem like someone you’d be scared of or would do the horrendous things he did.

Everything i'd read about Sheeran long before this movie was a thing was that he was a big hulk of a man.

At 6 4 and heavy compared to 5 9 light weight actor playing him it does do away with completely why he was such an imposing character.

This was great. Time whizzed by I thought, possibly dragged slightly at the very end but until then felt I could comfortably watch this for hours yet.

It's been too long since we've had a great gangster epic like this. Thrilled with the film, and Scorsese remains as exhilarating a director as he's always been.

Lol fu** you’re a joke.

De Niro looks nothing like the real Sheeran but it doesn’t matter to the performance he gives in this one.

He is playing it as though he is your nice old grandpa remembering his life full of regrets, not just some crazed mafia beast.

The last scene is heartbreaking.

Nah, casting someone who isn't physically imposing to play someone who was incredibly physically imposing might fool idiots like you but in the end it's poor casting.

Brendan Gleeson would have been a far better choice to play the character.

3.5 hours but not a minute wasted. Tight script and classic acting from the three actors makes it not feel long at all.

But my impression of the movie honestly, meh.

I'm watching this in multiple sittings, I just got to the Hoffa introduction and all the politics stuff and it's losing me a little. I'm not quite understanding the movie at this point.

I would've liked younger actors

Maybe Tim Allen?

So yeah, another film right in the standard-level Scorsese pack.

Shutter Island is the last time he made a film I'd call impressive, but he remains reliably very good.

I feel like this movie is a decade or more too late. These mob/gangster type films just aren’t as compelling anymore.

I tried to tell myself I liked this but honestly it was average, great acting from Pesci and Pacino didn't save this film.

The first 30 minutes is confusing and at no point does this movie lock you in, slow paced borefest.

Absolutely love Scorsece films my all time favourite movie is Casino but this was just hot garbage.

I hate saying that btw.

It was good. It's just hard to lock into a movie for that long. Was in an uncomfortable chair and I thought it was bout to end when the killing happened late, but then we got another 45 mins.

I appreciate the story and I have bought the book now to read more about it. The acting of Pesci and Pacino was amazing, but yeah it just didn't grab you like Goodfellas did.

Still it was one of the best movies I've seen lately.

It was good. Wonder if the initial plan was a miniseries as there's many supporting characters that could've been fleshed out. Don't know how many are real or fake but would've been interesting to get a fuller picture of this story's world. I'd watch 5-8 episodes of that.

Things like the Anna Paquin character never got the big moments I expected*. Many famous actors doing supporting roles. Bit of a shame it become so centred around the Al Pacino character. Was thinking that was just a spot on the road of this movie
already knew Jimmy Hoffa disappeared in real life
but it becomes the main focus and the story narrows down.

*which is probably an intentional point about how real life plays out; in real life there wouldn't be a catharsis moment with him in it for her

Get the point is probably that a life of crime ultimately isn't cinematic, is bad for you, and everybody gets forgotten but I already know that.

Worst thing about this movie is Netflix's decision to hype it for months and months before it came out. If it were a movie you just heard about and watched a day later it probably wouldn't seem frustrating.

I think there were better options than De Niro for the lead, but he was solid, and Pesci very good.

Overall I think it fits in well with the rest of Scorsese's filmography.

Pretty much how I felt.
