Well, the footy club certainly don’t deserve to be copping it.
Oh 100% and that seemed to be the angle of the media originally that somehow the dogs should have and could have done more and that another club would be able to fix everything.

At least now their angle is putting the blame where it belongs

I feel like by and large the media have actually treated us fairly well in this situation, there was the odd "first Bailey now Jamarra" article but for the most part they've been very walking on egg shells about the Jamarra situation, and have pretty consistently said that we're doing everything we can to support him.

Despite my earlier post around supporting Jamarra indefinitely, I'm also not opposed to the shifting media narrative, only because it's different and I think it's evident that what has happened thus far isn't having the desired result.

I don't believe we should put him up for trade because we would not be acting in good faith towards another club.

We cop it. Our mistake under the current system where it appears the club has little to no recourse.

Release him immediately and pay him out with the AFL's consent. The AFL then then disallow his return, for any club (state level and above), for a period of 36 months and review the entire way that this situation can unfold and the mechanisms available to a club to deal with it.

We also conduct our own review (with independent contributors) into the decision to extend him and and also those surrounding Smith.

I think similar to the case of Carlton being recompensed for Jones being picked up by us, if we let him go and another club picks him up in within three years we get recompensed by the AFL.

Media are turning on him now. It’s not poor JUH and his mental health anymore. It’s he’s making a mockery of mental health and the Football club has its hands tied.
I think after the most recent social media trainwreck sympathy is flying out the window.

If something like this happens over a short period then people might reserve judgement but it’s basically been going on since September and there’s no obvious sign of progress.

If he has serious personal issues I don’t see how what he’s doing (and being filmed doing) is going to help at all. If he wants to be paid while taking time out, he can surely agree to cut the nightlife.

On the current trajectory I don’t think a club will trade anything of value for him anyway.

Very talented players often get second chances but it wouldn’t surprise at all if clubs basically waited to see if he would go to the VFL and keep it together for a year before getting him on their list.

Are people not seeing all the hallmarks of classic self-destructive behavior? Of course to us it looks completely idiotic and nonsensical. Which it is, but someone in that state is not thinking logically.

I think the media’s been fair. If you’re stepping away from the game for personal reasons, the onus is on you to not post your drunk antics on social media.

Would he be any different at another club? Or has he lost interest in football?
And where are his parents? I thought he came from a really supportive family.
His folks are no where to be seen sadly. I don't think he would be any different at other clubs. Some Clubs may put up with his behaviour though.

I think the club needs to take some action, whether he is suspended for breaking team rules or something, it does look pathetic that he is walking all over us.

If he's publicly suspended, do you think that would make a difference? (I'm not being a dick I'm genuinely curious on how people feel) because it seems he's essentially internally suspended at the moment anyway.

No club would put up with a player taking a fairly large wage and not turning up to training and spending his whole time out partying. The only way to find out for certain if its a supposedly mental health issue is to take his pay away from him and in effect cut out his partying.

I would try and go the opposite way, take him on the next interstate trip. Get him out of Melbourne for a weekend and see that footy can be enjoyable again. Try and use that as a reset

Probably won't work, but it couldn't really hurt
It might be good for him, but the impact on the group as a whole by inviting him back in when he is totally taking the pi$$ would be very detrimental. It would send a signal to the group that we are willing to accept this.

Maybe we’ve offered and he declined?
Who knows anymore mate.
He was happy to head to WA with the indigenous players. I can’t see a world where we have not offered to take him to Adelaide or Perth.

I don't see why he should take the place of some other, not so talented but more deserving player on an interstate trip. (Having said that, I don't know if there's a limit on the number that can go...)

it seems like he doesn’t want to be around and we don’t want him around.

We were more than happy to let Bailey Smith traipse around Europe once it was clear he was off to Geelong. Yes he was out with the knee but I don’t think that was the reason why we were happy to see him off during the season.

Some clubs will publicly say they can “back in” and “fix” players like JUH, realistically it’s more about risk tolerance. Buddy had some open secrets during his Sydney stint. Stengle got rug swept. Geelong and Sydney are just consistent powerhouses that are good at making issues go away in the media.

We aren’t really like that and particularly under Bevo, it’s always been you’re fully committed for the length of your contract (Dunkley) - or you’re out.

See (if true) the saints losing interest after due diligence on JUH last season. Similar position to us.

If anyone caught Agenda Setters tonight, another couple of partying social media clips over the weekend.

Riewoldt said JUH was taking the piss. He said it twice. Hard to disagree.

Exhibit A on how to torch an AFL career in six months and watch all these 'mates' flee when the career and cash dries up.

Sad.
Let me guess. Pics with gronks with neck tattoos?

They’ve recruited a lot of indigenous players in recent years. Not sure Willie’s thoughts will impact any other indigenous players from going there.
Uniquely, Hawthorn have a history of acquiring indigenous players from Port Adelaide.

Karl Amon
Jarman Impey
Shaun Burgoyne

I'm sure there are others.
