Him and his management are 100% getting him out as quickly and cheaply as possible. All this just affects his trade value, not the contract he’s going to get. That’s the reality. It worked with Smith, who took off for most of 2024, travelled and worked out away from the club, then was traded for half his value, why wouldn’t it work with Jamarra? Wash, rinse, repeat.
I wouldn’t say Smith took off 2024. Bloke did his ACL.

I strongly doubt clubs can/will offer more money than what he’s on next year and then lowball us. Or that we would be foolish enough to just flop to a contracted player.

“Took off for”, i.e. he wasn’t around the club.

They wouldn’t need to offer more for next year, it’s the years after he’s chasing. What we accept this year might just depend on how we think we’d fare at the trade table when he’s out of contract next year. Based on prior experience, and the deals we’ve accepted, probably not very well.

I'm OK with how the club dealt with Sniff and now JUH ... from the outside.

As suggested before, the trick is to not draft them in the first place.

But we come out of it looking like a club that looks after its players and does what it can to help those players ... even the ones happy to sh1t all over us. A talented player from another club might find that appealing in time.

And if the universe sees fit to send a premiership our way every 10 years in a show of cosmic karma that would be great.

It's hard to protect how a player will go in a professional environment.

Smith was a teetotaler pre-draft.
Sicily slid because of concerns over his competitiveness.
Marra was a boarder and we had a very good look at his progress, as an NGA kid.
Clay Smith slid because he couldn't kick - yeah, the guy who kicked 8 goals 1 behind in our 2016 finals series.

I think it's very dangerous to avoid kids over what we think they might be like after 5+ years in the system.

It’ll be more so the young potential draftees and their families that steer clear.

This is certainly becoming a PR issue for Connors.
In the Bailey Smith case, Connors has absolutely done the right thing by his player. Got him to his club of choice, with that club needing to give up as little as possible.

This stuff doesn’t blow back on the agents, that’s just hopium unfortunately. Pickering and Connors both slotted the club publicly for not bending over quickly enough on Dunkley and Smith, no one cares outside of our club. They take the credit for getting their player the contract they want at the club they want to play for, and the subsequent redemption arc/goodwill, while blaming the previous club for the player being in that position in the first place.

Plenty of ways for players to move or arrive at clubs.

Various drafts, trading, rookie, free agency.

Connors management just thinks that free agency starts from season 1!

Clay is the odd one out in those 4 because the ???? were on technical ability. But what an attitude he had. One that saw him very quickly overcome any perceived technical flaws.

Haven't taken a lot of interest in Sicily other than to know he's a serious threat when we play them.

But that's the challenge of the recruitment team. Most of us could get close to the draft order on exposed form at TAC level if we were watching it every week. But the very analysis and prediction of how innate talent at age group level will play out in a professional environment is where they need to earn their money. And psychological profiling is a big part of that and needs some resourcing .... in my view.

And here is where the AFL need to step in.

Two Connors Sports Management clients in two years have d***** our club and I have no doubt their management are either letting it happen or egging it on. It's pathetic and it's akin to draft tampering.

Are the AFL happy for this sort of crap to continue? Not a great look for the integrity of the league but then again they probably are like the media hacks barracking for the story of a player like him going to a 'big club' 🙄

I would hope the club has nothing to do with Connors and his group again. Proven troublemakers.

I know Bev mentioned that these things crystallise at the end of the season, and in terms of structured processes that’s true, but I really don’t see how this situation can be left to continue this way for the rest of year. What more can the club do for this guy? The total disregard for his responsibilities as a contracted AFL player is astonishing and the club ultimately pays for this in multiple ways.

Think Brisbane is a big chance.
Think it's either Allen or Marra for Lions
Dees are chasing Allen pretty hard

Problem is that Lions have some decent academy players coming up in future trades, so future trading won't be a big option for them

I know someone who is friends with Barrett (I know) and they mentioned weeks ago before this blew up that Barrett had told them that Brisbane were right into him and Allen less so.
