The narrative that Jamarra has gamed the club, played us for suckers, seems ridiculous to me.

Sure he's getting his $800k or whatever for nothing, but his next contract for many millions over several years (with us or another club) was the really big one.

That will now not happen, or will be a very small percentage of what it should have been.

He is not a young man controlling the situation, he is out of control.

Sadly, all parties are losers in this situation - most of all him.
In a literal sense, if he came back to full training now and was available for the VFL mid year, then kicked absolute cricket scores and got back in the side by year’s end he could get back in the frame for big money from 2027. Probably only a few years at a time rather than 6-7 years but still back on track.

The likelihood of anything like that occurring now is obviously <1%.

Extremely difficult to watch unfold. He could have turned it around at any time to this point by committing. With every week he’s away from the club now he slides further away from being anywhere near playing AFL.

surely no one thinks he’s ****ed us over on purpose? but he still has. like you said there’s no winners in this.
I agree with you that it seems insane LG, but just reading this thread, there are plenty who think that JUH is intentionally playing us, with an ultimate motive to move to another club or whatever. Nuts.

I hope for this incoming batch of recruits, that having seen Jamarra's downfall up close, that they have learnt very valuable life lessons about their choices in life. Whilst Jamarra has been a big distraction for the club, from the outside, it doesn't seem to have had an affect on the club onfield. Jamarra taking leave from the club is a bonus for these players, so they can concentrate on establishing their careers.

WB Draftee S.O.P.

1. Don’t be a f***in Jamarra.
2. Repeat step 1.

It’s so hard to understand how people think Marra is actively trying to screw us.

He’s stuffed up a heap and has surrounded himself with some horrible people, but nothing he’s done imo has been with the intention to screw the club.

Like I said, he has ****ed us over, but I don’t think he’s meant to.

If indeed it’s an addiction of some sort (previously suggested by others in this thread) then continuing to pay him shed-loads of money would seem to be counterintuitive at best and enabling at worst. I assume they are trying to get him into rehab and he’s resisting. No wonder he’s lost all interest in football and the rigid discipline of an AFL club, his head is all over the place.

I’m fortunate that I don’t know anyone suffering from this terrible affliction but I’ve certainly read about the devastation it causes to its victims and those close to them.

I really hope and pray all those surrounding Jamarra will keep up their efforts to rehabilitate this brilliant young man.

Just wish someone would cut through all the spin and give us the truth. Won't happen, but it would be nice.
I'd speculate that the AFL told his manager to persuade him to take a leave of absence or........

Because they kind of make their own rules they may have suggested that he would be ineligible for registration as an AFL player post this contract if he didn't. Leaving the door slightly ajar for some sort epiphany and changing of ways. I suspect if there is none, he'll be ineligible for AFL registration post 2026.

Under the current contract structure it may be difficult/impossible to terminate him without his agreement and he'd have to be paid something.

I expect they'll look at contracts and introducing termination clauses from this point on but they're stuck with this one.

Young fellows are extremely vulnerable to admiration, flattery, adulation, people doing them favours, pretty young women, living the high life. It’s all out there when suddenly you’re famous, paid a lot of money, meeting heaps of people, who may offer fun and social opportunities but who don’t have your best interests in mind.

I imagine the clubs speak to recruits a lot about these things when they have the responsibility of these young lads’ futures in front of them.

But now and then someone will slip through the cracks.

I think the state of mind that Jamarra is in, is a very inward looking one, it doesn't lend itself to take in to account his actions on other parties. I don't think it's deliberate, he's spiralling, he flailing, he's probably feeling guilty, which makes him feel resentful, and the cycle continues. ☹️ That said, the club is bigger than the player, and thry have to ensure that they look after the best interests of the club. In my opinion, the club have handled the awful situation as best as could be done.

It's also spoken about alot through talent pathways now.

Scott Gullan via the Herald Scum noting he no showed a compulsory training sesh on the Saturday the AFL team were in Adelaide for gathering round.
Not only that, he was posting stuff on Insta showing he was out the night prior.

I have zero sympathy for Marra. Regardless of what he is going through. To give such a **** you to the club shows what type of shit bloke he is.

Apparently the leadership group eventually went to the club requesting something be done. Hence today’s action. Says a lot when your teammates don’t want you around.

The quicker he’s no longer part of the club and its supporters sphere, the better!

Unfortunately that would appear to be the same leadership group that intervened to get him a spot on the bench in the EF.

I’d probably consider just asking the rookie list or first year players for their input next time.

Still, glad there is progress.

That’s right. A time when he was still one of them. A leadership group doing right by a teammate, even when he probably didn’t deserve it.

He then re-pays them by shitting all over them and the club.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone some of them have now severed ties.

I can imagine they would be ropeable.

To be honest, if he was on a bender and missed sessions (and may have been in Bali) then I think dropping him was the only answer. I can’t really believe they pushed for him to play.

Misplaced trust that the leadership group would not doubt learn from.

Fool me once ...
