We should be letting Jamarra, the AFL and his manager know that we will be prepared to keep him on the list for another year, and he can miss 2 years of footy for no real reason, and see what happens to his career.

We aren’t ruthless like that though and will probably cave. It’ll be something like JUH and a 2nd for a first that we can try and spin as a win.

That's not gonna happen.

If Jamarra doesn't play a game for the rest of the year, the absolute best we could hope for is a singular first rounder around pick 10. There's too much risk for clubs but there will certainly be a few that would be lining up.

Hanily is out of contract. Has played ok. Will be steak knives in a deal. Sheldrick also out of contract but a WA boy. Justin McInerney has a year left and the 1 that should be the primary target. McInerney would command a late first early 2nd.
They have a F/S coming in this year in Max King. Their first if a late 1 might need to be traded anyways.

Yep, that’s what he said and what will happen, it might win us some karma points but it’s not how you maximise the value of your under contract asset.

We might even shout him the uber to the airport. But actively pushing out a contracted player takes away any leverage gained from the fact he’s contracted. We got Treloar on the cheap this way.

The too hard basket is the easier choice and the one we tend to take.

Connor's managed players sure love to use the 'mental health' card don't they..

Looking back it was a big red flag when Bailey Smith told interstate clubs not to draft him because of his "mental health". He even went as far as obtaining a doctor's certificate stating that moving interstate could negatively impact his 'mental health'.
Then Smith, Oliver and Jamarra have all used the 'mental health' card to take indefinite leave from their clubs.

It really does a disservice to the many AFL players who are actually battling serious mental health problems.

Fit and firing JUH would field offers of 1.2mil per season. 2 x First rounders the starting point of the trade.

Right now he’s barely worth a 2 year /600k a season offer. Does he really wish to move clubs (or even interstate if required) to receive average AFL wage?

If the AFL won’t allow us to sack him, then the correct advice from his management is to sort his shit, reload for 2026 and get your big offer when out of contract. JUH doesn’t look anywhere near capable of managing that though.

Too true ... if he sits out the year and keeps rubbing people's face in the mud there will not be too many sane clubs who'd spend their hard he earned on him.
Based on what is being reported you'd have to question whether he or wants to turn it around ... and what club would take a punt on a fella who obviously is quite fragile & immature.
If we can't off load him and doesn't come onboard i'd play hard ball & wait until the SSP of 2026 ends and terminate his contract.

I'm already resigned to the fact that we'll only get one first rounder maybe with something thrown in at best for Jamarra.

I just hope we can get him up playing at some stage, it would improve our position a lot.

I get the sentiment but I wouldn’t want to be paying his full wages to do nothing for 2 years.

This is all so depressing. This saga points to a whole season of constant speculation and distraction. Assuming that JUH is not with us next year the club must come up with a strategy to mitigate the on-going damage. I'm sure they have already made plans (A, B and C) and hopefully very soon we can all put this out of minds and focus on what really matters.

Playing 20 games of football this year (at whatever level) gives Jamarra options. The longer this drags out the less options he has.

If he opts out of playing then that’s on him, and the club should act in its best interests and its best interests alone.

I’d also make it public that Jamarra is ready for VFL selection as early as next week. Puts the ball squarely in JUH court.

The narrative needs to change as much as anything.

It's just so shit considering the rest of the club seem to be gelling so well and punching above their weight with all our injuries. Feels like this disharmony will spill over to the team at some point and we'll have performances we don't understand like against the Weagles in late 23.

We just have to sit tight and hope he comes around. No point sacking him, we get nothing for it. There will still be plenty of clubs ready to take him next year. Problem is Marra knows this and this is my issue. There is no recourse for breaking contracts. Dogs are just playing the game at the moment. It's a shame but all you can do is turn a bad situation into a good with a trade or draft picks. Try to be understanding on the outside.

I have no idea how AFL contracts work but there has to be conditions to be met within a contract. A contract that can't be breached isn't a contract. And there has to be recourse to a breach of contract.

Like he surely can't simply not attend training without consent or illness. Same with matches be it VFL or AFL.

If he's actually taking the piss then play him as the VFL sub every week, and don't even play him.

I think Marra has lost interest in playing AFL, it is simply that. He will milk his payments as long as he can,until he is eventually let go, possibly with a negotiated severance payment.

I don’t think he is interested in playing for another club. Possibly a few years facing the 9-5 reality, might make him reassess, but for now he is lost to footy.

He must have so many other career options lined up.
With his vast experience in the business world or on the tools the world’s his oyster.

We're delusional if we think we can just not touch players who have Connors (or whoever) as their manager. If we do we're likely to exclude ourselves from nearly 50% of the top 20 draft candidates each year. Not to mention trades.

I'm not saying that no management company is manipulative, underhand or conniving but the club has almost no power to change the way these things operate. If the managers push for players to leave small clubs and have no sympathy for those clubs it's just another shit situation. We're swimming against the outgoing tide in the Shit Creek estuary.

And someone suggested these behaviours and recurring incidents would be bad PR for the agency. FFS, why? They are getting their players exactly what they want and quite possibly advising them the best tactics to facilitate each exit. If anything it'd really be boosting their appeal for prospective clients.

I think Jamarra going full Fred Fanning in the VFL for a stretch would be enough to stir interest.
