Utterly ridiculous that he’d be entitled to any of that money.
I’d prefer we let him walk to another club and have access to the additional ~$1m to pay our players who actually turn up to work, throw at Butters or target a free agent.
It's the AFL landscape unfortunately. Pies had the same thing with Beams a few years ago. Individual players are currently more powerful then whole clubs which I'd absurd.

I beleive the AFL have an agreement infront of the AFLPA and his management now. So still a couple of hurdles to jump and these things generally drag out but from a club perspective the hands have been washed.
I believe the main sticking point will be the main sticking point will be with the 18 month non-compete clause that comes with the contract.
I have been told the severance package that has been approved by the AFL will be full wage from 25 and a large portion of the 26 wage with 50% of the 26 wage NOT included in the salary cap. In terms of list implications Jamarra will still be a listed player until the end of 2026 however he will be on the inactive list.
It sounds unnecessarily complicated.

Extortion by AFL rules.

Unfortunately this is right and the only way I can see draft compensation coming is if someone else gives him a chance.

It is what it is. Until Darcy’s draft year we thought we were getting a speculative third tall defender so swings and roundabouts.

Have to break my self-imposed thread ban to ask.

Having 50% of the money still being included in next years cap just penalises us further, but any chance this would be offset by any form of compensation pick under the circumstances?

Or do we need to just take it dry and say thanks very much afterwards?

If this eventuates, it certainly puts the Purple Headed ****wit's below claim in some doubt. Difficult to play AFL when you're on the inactive list, so I'm sure it'll be used by him to have another crack at Bevo.

"As dire as his image and the now-competition wide adverse perception of his attitude has become, Ugle-Hagan will be playing in the AFL next season."

There may be some subtle sweeteners such as a better draw next year commercially etc.

Bent over a barrell unfortunately.

It'd take the player managers forfeiting some of the guaranteed income to remove the non compete clause. Simply put he could be given the opportunity to sign somewhere as a DFA (we wouldn't get compensation) essentially tearing up the last year on his contract and removing him from our books.
This has pros and cons.
From our side we are strengthening opposition (probably cats) however freeing cap and a main list spot.
From a management/player stand point the pay to play will be significantly less but "if" he turns things around could rejuvenate his career.

No club is going to trade for him now given how its all played out they'll either pick the bones if he is cut immediately or monitor for 12 months before doing the same.

I'm a member of Australia's casual workforce , who doesn't get a red cent unless he turns up for work no.matter what has befallen me.

I'm all for employee protection but that's a very generous system! I suppose it's predicated upon injury/illness rather than whatever the thing it is that ails Marra. Still the AFL has to realise that without us fans there is no football shaped bottomless chocolate box and this doesn't feel tasty at all, not at all .

This is just sad. Never thought it would get to this.

Id rather keep him on the books in the hope he gets his shit together in the back end of this year / 2026 then off load him now for nothing.

What I don’t understand is that he seems to be able to train consistently at the boxing gym but can’t commit to training at WO?

I’m not questioning those with intel and given bevos commentary too, it seems at odds with what Ameet Bains recently said
Ameet is good at commercial operations, but is lacking in football judgement imo.

“Peace talks”? So we’re at war with Jamarra?

More like “WTF are you doing?” talks.

How does our draw get better commercially? 90% of games are on prime time vs Melbourne clubs.

As it stands
Marra will be a Dogs listed player in 2026

Edit: From Marra himself
Yeah if what Moj says is fact, which i think it would be close to the money he will be on the inactive list

Just interested to know whether such a non compete clause is reflected in player contracts in any other major sporting competition around the world. It may be relatively common, and I will stand corrected. But it seems like the AFLPA is having a massive laugh here.

If and when he gets his shit together it ain’t going to be with us. It’s clear the club has moved on. We all know Bevo is very protective of his players but once you’re out of the circle of trust there’s no coming back.
