He wasn’t placed on the inactive list. Is that due to restrictions in the rules?
At a guess, I would say it would be to give him some sort of incentive to keep on the rehab trail.
If he knows he has no chance of playing this season, would be so much harder to keep on the straight and narrow.

Don't know how that can be spun as anything other than a good thing?
Many strong opinions about Marra which will be spun many ways till he decides his path.

Hopefully he is accepting the help he needs amd gets back on track. IF and only IF he does have no doubt it will be in colours we here are happy with

Believe hes back in melbourne now

The real hard work/ test starts now then. Returning to the community and back around historical bad influences and triggers always leaves those people in a vulnerable position. Everything crossed he can make the life changes he needs to. The Dogs/AFL will make every possible resource available to him, the rest is up to him.

Jamarra reposted the contract announcements for Cleary and Smith on his instagram story
I think it’s clear as day that this whole situation isn’t club based, it’s life and football based.

Who knows, maybe we’ll get a new and improved Jamarra in 6 months time. The best thing for him is to keep his head down and do the work on himself. He has every resource available to him.

Probably an effort to try and make amends by being more engaged with the club. Fingers crossed he gets himself right first and foremost

I would love to see Jamarra back in our colours. I think there is zero chance he plays this season. I have read some here thinks he needs some incentive, that incentive is for next year. And he still has to earn it again next year. Maybe even a different role with Sam Darcy owning the forward line now.

I am suspicious of the friendship of Smith and Marra considering Geelong’s interest in recruiting him. A quick cursory glance at the Scats board, they seem to think they will get him if they want him.
Unlike Smith, Marra is contracted. The dogs will not willingly deal with the Cats.

and that Smith trade really worked out. NOT
The jury is still out. There is alot of water to go under the bridge yet. Geelong and Smith are still in the honeymoon phase and Hynes is only a few months into his first season.
Essendon were over the moon with Stringer early days aswell.
But yes you're right the bad faith at the trade table certainly left a sour taste in the mouth.

Eighty pages on the thread and nobody knows really. All we know is he has had rehab for his addiction on average 58% of people recover from rehab. Lets say I in 2 if he gets passed this then has to find the desire to accept the requirements of elite sport. If he gets passed this then he needs to decide if it is with the dogs and the dogs needs to decide if he as destroyed to many relationships.

Putting in percentage terms if he ever plays with us again.

50% he gets over his addiction
50% he finds the level to commit to elite footy
50% chance he plays with the dogs

.5 x.5 x .5 = .125 or 12.5% chance he plays with the dogs again.

Still think we should have sent him to the draft and let him end up wherever.

I hope Hynes has a great career but it was so far off Smiths value, we could have sent a message.
The issue was he would have ended up at Geelong for that same selection and made us look silly. His management had warned off other clubs to not pick him up with (1) threats that he'd just sit out the year and (2) threats that it would burn the relationship with the management agency in connection with other players - obviously both are ****shit! Given the fact pattern, and Smith's managements preparedness to do what they did, Andrew Mackie acted completely rationally.

It was too big of a risk for interstate clubs, but if one of St Kilda (picks 8/10) or Richmond (picks 12/14) called the bluff and said if he goes to the draft they'll pick him then it would have forced Geelong to pay fair value. Richmond is the one that annoys me given they could have taken the view:
  1. If Smith decides to play he'll generate a lot of attention for the club, they possibly convince him to stay long term, and he's young enough at 24 years old to still fit into their rebuild cycle.

  2. If he decides to play but then pushes for a move to Geelong in 12 months they probably get compensation better than the pick #14 they used to pick him up, while spreading their plethora of early picks over multiple years.

  3. If Smith stands by his threat to sit out the year, then they're really no worse off than they were picking up Taj Hotton at pick #12 off an ACL who was missing all of 2025 as well, and they'd get compensation similar to the pick used on him.
