If he retires end of the year, do we need to pay him out for next year or na?
Each retirement is different. Ultimately if he retires it's because he's come to terms with the club, what those terms are will dictate whether he is paid or not. If he is paid it would be part of the salary cap.

Edit: Bold part is assuming the AFL doesn't provide any exceptions - which I'd expect they would.

I don't care if he misses training. What's he training for ? His season is over.

The club won't parachute him into a settled VFL side at finals time. That wouldn't be fair on any party.
True. I thought maybe he could've been gifted a VFL game against a weak side to see where he's at with match fitness, but it's too late for that now.

From tonight's Instagram he's more interested in the Melbourne Storm.

Maybe he can do a reverse Falou?
Can’t blame him for tonight as was a great game and awesome was Storm hard not to be captivated by it.

I think we are beyond gifting with Mara, he needs to meet standards and gain trust which I'm not sure he has just yet. Personally I'd love to see him turn it around with us but can't see it :)

My gut is he asks for a trade to Sydney or Geelong. The Lions seem committed to Oscar Allen.

Yeah, getting bent over by Geelong again seems like a top idea

We can't really do much about it. If he nominates that he wants to get there it will happen and they'll pay nothing. Yes he's contracted and blah blah but we don't have much leverage given we want him gone and the AFL will be very keen to be trying to land an outcome that gives him the best possible chance of turning things around. There's a 95% chance we get ****ed again through no fault of our own.

Does anyone know if he’s been training in the last week or so?
He won't be back till the season ends

Dogs are focusing on Finals and he's been told to be ready for day 1 pre season
