I said it earlier but Marra has almost no value as a stand alone trade right now.

But if you tack him onto the end of a broader trade he might tip the balance as it allows the receiving club to sell hope to their fans.

E.g. Our first and Marra for Wilkie. Allows the Saints to say they not only got a first round pick but also a #1 pick Key Forward to sell hope.

Sure, but what's your solution to your anger? Beg the AFL for compensation? What grounds do we have for that, other than to try and force the issue that because he hasn't held up to his contract, we're not obligated to pay it (and have the subsequent salary cap ramifications)? If we want to get some trade value for him we're also then treating his contract as valid and therefore can't subsequently complain about having to pay his salary. Either he has a contract or he doesn't.

There is no solution, hence my anger/frustration.

What annoys me about these situations is that it's not the first time we'll have been forced into a 'damaged goods' fire sale of a player where another club picks them up cheaply and we end up looking like jokers when they go on to success.

Anyway, that's the system and we just have to take our medicine I guess.

Haven't you heard the news? The Saints are a definite premiership contender next year and beyond, at least in their own desperation-fuelled fever dream.

When I had a look on their board last week when they were all going off about us with Wilkie (lots of frustration and anger over there), someone said something along the lines of TDK easily being worth $1.7mil a year if his contract brings them a couple of flags

😭😭😭

It's some quality fanfic. Now they reckon they can't fit Jamie Elliott into their stacked forward line, SDK for a 30yo Marshall, we are insane to not pick up Steven May, and that not offering up Richards plus a top 10 pick means we are not a serious football club, all while clutching the trusty ol' rosary beads of, "he's contracted, he'll be a premiership captain, dogs have to send us freijah and bont".

Has had his exit interview, nothing categoric from either party.

Who was damaged goods and we look like jokers?

Makes a lot of sense tbh. Saints are desperate for talent and need to take big risks to acquire it. Apparently they backed out of trading two firsts for him last year but the equation has changed significantly - he would effectively be free at this point. Interesting that they are sounding out two of our in-contract players. Could open the door to a Wilkie deal.

So are we saying this situation and his behaviour over the last 12+ months may have all been a long game, manufactured to bring down his trade value a la Bailey and the Cotton On Cats 🤔 His commitment to it has been most impressive.
Surely no one could be that devious 😉

We should seriously consider offering part salary payment to any club willing to take a chance on Marra.

Would likely increase interest from more clubs and our chances of getting something decent in return.

As it stands, we either continue paying full salary and he remains on our list in 2026. Pay part salary if contract is torn up. Or pay nothing and receive nothing in a trade with another club.

Any of those options are shit. So is paying part salary, but if it means we get a decent draft pick in return I’d be all over it.

I mean most of us could have seen that coming.

The club isn't going to publicly state that they want him out the door before trade week if other clubs are interested.
Ralph says both parties will look at trade options. These talking heads are often just filling blanks with their imaginations but it makes some sense.

If anyone is interested and we can get anything which helps us elsewhere (ok pick or sweetener on a trade) then it’s better than sacking him.

I just don’t know who would take him.

Imagine we’d even received one first rounder for him last year.

Supporters would have been apoplectic with rage and the club would have looked in crisis but just imagine how the last 12 months would have been without the drama, without torching $800k for nothing and with an extra first rounder debuting.

Not our fault though. He was being courted by Geelong years prior (Cotton on Deal) and then was incredible immature throughout last year

No, not our fault just a bit over the p*** being taken out of the club by players who the club has clearly bent over backwards to support. Anyway on we go.

If and it's a big If..... I would hold him to his contract and try and turn him into a centre half back and create him a new challenge... if he cracks it as he doesn't want to play back... bad luck.... shows his not a team player!

All very valid points Charlie and well summarised ...At this point, I would be happy to pay JUH and make him not able to play full stop for anyone else and I would be looking at talking to his management* about not working with them constructively on other players however passing him onto another club, perhaps Essendon, would be ideal even if we still had to stump up the majority of the coin. Would Tasmania be interested?

* Very loose term in this case
For his own sake I really think he should get out of the melb footy bubble
Agreed and probably best in Sydney or Queensland. Could you imaging him in Hindley Street, Adelaide or Freemantle on a Friday night on FIFO changeover week?

Iconic for the year but **** was the only big name to wear it

54Kennedy, Rick198114
54Darcy, Anthony199312
54Sampson, Glen19806
54Barham, Jamie19821
54Cullen, Mark19861
Mark Cullen was a big name if you use the criteria of "the player my dad yelled at more than any other bulldog in history".
