It is risky but I don't think he's going to have much other choices.

At this point I am more focused on what’s best for the footy club.

What may or may not be in his interests is of less concern.

Both Dogs and Marra would need to agree to tear up his contract, and then Marra would have to agree to have his 800k spread over two years.
Saints are the only team that will trade for him and that's because they need us to cover his contract.

Meh. You can party hard anywhere mate. Only difference is, you stuff up up north and you are more likely to get away with it in the media.

Hunter knocked out the retaining walls at Melbourne culturally and Stringer literally invited bikies into the rooms at Essendon.

JUH can complete the unholy trifecta.

Aswell as Rioli. It's always a worry bringing troubled players into a young squad though, the chances of leading other impressionable minds down the same path has to be a concern. Where as if he went to somewhere like Bisbane or Pies that'd be less of a concern in my mind.

A lot of players who have had long absences have battled pretty badly.

Nathan Ablett comes to mind. Retired a premiership full forward and could barely get a game for Gold Coast later.

I heard Hardwick speak at a function about his regret at taking Troy Taylor, a young indigenous player who had been in trouble for shoplifting etc but had apparently reformed.

He said he’d never take a player who was off the rails on a promise of reform again and it was one of his biggest regrets as a coach.

I really hope this interest is genuine and allows us to get something useful back. I worry it’s not.

There’s a difference between someone whose mistakes are in the distant past and someone like JUH who would appear to still be off the rails.

Well there’s that too - Pickett had a fine career for a late bloomer but seems to have struggled to stay on the straight and narrow.

Cousins was reportedly on the gear his whole time at Richmond and for more than a decade after as well.

Generally once someone is so far off the rails they can’t even turn up to their job it’s a long road back.

You forgot the part where he packed up his bags and headed to WA after the RDFL Home and Away season. The team he played for qualified for finals but when he found out players don't get paid extra for playing finals, he was done.

Absolute selfish prick. It's amazing the Tigers won two flags with him on the list.
