He doesn't hang around with awful people. He's never been like Jamarra. He was late for training twice in his whole career.
His Dad was deported because of Dutton's ridiculous new laws which no other countries have .
I don't think Jamarra wants to be a professional footballer , much like Tom Boyd, and I don't think anyone will pick him up.
His dad was a member of the Rebels. Absolutely terrible person who was rightfully deported. Probably the one thing Dutton ever got right

If Gold Coast do a diligence there is no possible way they recruit him.

I predict a settlement between the AFL, Dogs and his management. Best outcome for all. Then it's up to him to really turn his life around, moving to GC is not the answer.

why couldn't we have done that?
Perhaps you should research the contracts of AFL players. They are not just between the player and the club, as the AFL is a signatory to a tripartite agreement that contains various prohibitions negotiated by the AFLPA within the collective bargaining agreement.

No player has that type of clause in their contract and JUH won't have it if he gets to the Suns. A heavily performance based contract is the most that has ever been agreed in the past.

thanks mutt, I will be sure to go back to uni and do a legal degree majoring in sports management. If you noticed my comment had a ?... hence asking the question not making a statement

My concern is the AFL has its fingerprints all over this and will make sure their brand and their franchise club GCS get well looked after at the expense of the Dogs.

JUH has done the club no favours in this mess that he has created through his doing and his life decisions.

I think if anything they will go the other way given the amount of Academy players 2 of which are top 3-5 GC are getting this year

I think that's why he was only offered a 2 year contract (albeit at decent money) rather than anything longer term. They hedged with the length, thankfully.
At the time of that contract negotiation, wasn't a rival club offering not only a lot more money, but, IIRC, 8 years? And he knocked it back to stay?

Talk about an albatross around that club's neck if he had have accepted it.

The age article basically says it'll be a whole of club sign off for the suns. Eg. Leadership group etc (so I don't fancy his chances).

Also says they'll tear up his contract and write a new one (with us agreeing to foot any difference for 2026 given I imagine the $$ will be lower on the new contract).

Essentially us paying a portion of his contract next year in exchange for whatever they offer which is expected.

You asked a question and I answered it.

We've discussed how AFL player contracts work in this and other threads many times. No need to go to uni ... just read the posts that contain the basic information about contracts.

The Age article says that we'd need to negotiate with the AFL to "what to do with the difference" if Jamarra signs a contract with GC.

If he only gets a minimum deal there, what's stopping us saying, no, you can move as a delisted free agent, but only after we work out the terms of your exit with the Dogs once we negotiate it with the AFL. I get kind of angry if GC turned to us and say, "you know that 800,000 he's owed? Can you pay 650,000 of it?"

I should take everything writing on a Bigfooty website about contracts as gospel? hmmm... I'll take my chances back at uni thanks

Because the AFL likely have us pay out the full contact. We are absolutely over a barrel with the contract for next season. There is no point worrying about sunken cost now though in terms of what we gave up to get him aswell as what we paid him this year and next. Now its just a case of getting him out the door and moving on.
It's just lucky our total player payments are extremely well placed currently, if we removed the entirety of his contract and didn't bring in anyone via trade we would have to front end some more deals just to meet the cap floor.

Then I'm not sure why you asked the question. Of course you can't take everything you read on BigFooty as gospel (just as you can't believe everything taught at Uni as gospel) but why the hell ask the question if you won't take any notice of the answers? You are clearly looking for a fight, which I'm sure others on here don't want to listen to. Take it to PMs and I'll respond to you on there.

I agree that it's always going to be difficult with regard to the AFLPA, and cultural/mental health considerations, but surely a player cannot just not turn up to training and still receive the full amount of his contract? Maybe we'd be screwed over and still pay a significant chunk but surely we're in a position to legally discuss and settle for a smaller amount?

Apparently they can.

Perception is everything is cases like these. All parties need to be seen to be doing the right thing by the player. Dogs have made their position known to the AFL a long time ago (whilst playing the game publicly). AFL are now doing their piece in trying to find a trade. Yet I have no doubt the long awaiting settlement will come after trade period. The details will be interesting if ever released.

Apparently they can.
Pretty stuffed how the contracts seem to be so lopsided

hmm, to be honest I don't mind a fight but not the type with words as I'm out of my league. Though chat GPT might possibly help :)

However in the Ring, yes :) then again I am getting on in age! ;)

Anyway, let's face it unfortunately he is gone, it's a shame we need to move on!

It's hard to take, yes we get the raw end of the stick but I guess team is more important than the individual at the end of the day.

If I was a parent of a new draftee, would I want him having the ability to possibly influence my kid...probably not

In a pure footy sense why would GC want to take that gamble anyway? It’s not like they’re struggling for top end talent, including at KPF. I understand they would see a low cost/high upside gamble but they’re already set in that position.

I would completely understand North, Saints and a few others chasing him but not GC.

Things can change quickly. There are question marks around King sticking around, Read still potentially shifts position and Walter is no sure thing.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned is that he played his bottom age TAC year with both Rowell and Anderson. They’ve obviously been up on the Gold Coast for a number of years, but I’m sure they’d still know a lot of blokes who still know Jamarra in Melbourne and what he’s been up to (if anything - I have NFI) beyond what’s in the open media.

Pickering the absolute slimeball is advocating on radio for GC doing nothing during trade and taking him in the rookie draft or as a DFA after we’ve done what we’re going to do to.

Hopefully we can wedge him into some deal and get something out of it if we’re going to be bearing any of his salary.

So he gets paid out by us and then a new salary on top for next year? Jamarra's hit the jackpot if so 😂

Surely the AFL force a trade or make him sit out next season if this is to be the case.
