I give it like 1% chance we get burned by JUH leaving. He's in the Stringer mould of professionalism/dedication to training/diet/etc, possibly worse. I think Stringer was more talented too.

Hope the move North helps get his life on track though - just don't see it happening on the footy field for him. It's going to take him at least 2 seasons to get his fitness up to the required level.

Shame to see his time with us end in this way, but just the way it goes sometimes.

And like Stringer, there may be moments where he gets back on the park and looks like a million bucks because of his pure talent alone.

Those moments will be few and far between as you can't change the inherent nature of the individual.

From what has been reported, his current contract will allegedly be negotiated with the dogs for a settlement via his management (lol) and a new contract for 2026 will be drawn up.

Good luck to CSM getting a dollar out of the Dogs in any settlement

I'm genuinely surprised Gold Coast have gone for it. For everyone saying "what's the harm/cost there's upside", well, they're still using a list spot and there's also upside for any player you recruit at all. They lose the list spot.

High on their first finals series and win and having Dimma as coach, I think they've made a bad footballing decision here. No club was interested, and if Jamarra wanted to be serious they could have asked him to terminate his contract with the Dogs and done a SSP train-on with Gold Coast so they could have looked at his commitment.

The fact that Jamarra probably didn't want to do that to play AFL and would rather take 800k from the Dogs should have been setting off alarm bells for GC.

This is the other thing that I find a bit strange by GC. I don't doubt his sincerity that he loves the Dogs, but still couldn't use that as a reason or support network for his mental health, struggles, desire to adhere to his contract.

So how's it going to work at a club that he doesn't have friends at, doesn't seem to love? When the choice is going out at night or going to bed to get enough sleep before an early training session, the fact that he isn't going to be hugged by a teammate friend of his when he walks in surely makes that decision even harder?

It's a tiny little bit of irrelevance in the overall scheme of things, but for some reason I'm very glad that he isn't resentful towards us on the way out of the club.

I mean, we tried our best and there should be no reason for any resentment, but compare his attitude and demeanor to Clayton Oliver's airport doorstop, and ... no backhanders/airing of dirty laundry as he leaves, is a positive.

I think you need to look at this a bit more practically... if the choice you are given is $0 and a potential minimum chips contract vs $800k, you take the $800k

The Gold Coast is pretty rotten as far as crooks go. Bikes who don’t ride bikes but prey or sports stars, such as a couple from the Gold Coast Titans and the Broncos as well. Won’t name names but it’s all been mentioned in the news recently. It is a thin line up here.

I quite believe others who talk about the perils of GC bikies, night clubs, etc but Gold Coast at least has the advantage that it's a totally new environment for him.

If it's going to work for him at all then his best shot is in a brand new club in a new city with a new fan base. One where he has to prove himself all over again. I hope he can make something of it.

If he does make it back to the big time the danger may be in a year or two when he is earning the adulation of the fans and the media. He may drop his guard to those outside influences again if he has nothing left to prove to anybody.

The other big unknown is how much the prolonged absence from his community is going to affect him.

I remember Terry Wallace revealing that when he interviewed Ben Cousins he ducked into the toilet for ages, very obviously to take drugs, and they decided they’d better draft him to help him.

Similar vibes. Best of luck to Dimma. Was proud of our efforts to destabilise Essendon and Melbourne by sending Stringer and Hunter, but I reckon Smith and Jamarra could outdo them all.
