The club are terrible at trading but good at drafting nothing has changed this season. It will be interesting to compare our strategy to the saints. In the past we both have trouble attracting higher profile players. The saints have gone all out this trade to move up the ladder quickly. We are going down the draft strategy again. Apparently to keep our powder dry for Butters next trade period.

I'm genuinely surprised Gold Coast have gone for it. For everyone saying "what's the harm/cost there's upside", well, they're still using a list spot and there's also upside for any player you recruit at all. They lose the list spot.

High on their first finals series and win and having Dimma as coach, I think they've made a bad footballing decision here. No club was interested, and if Jamarra wanted to be serious they could have asked him to terminate his contract with the Dogs and done a SSP train-on with Gold Coast so they could have looked at his commitment.

The fact that Jamarra probably didn't want to do that to play AFL and would rather take 800k from the Dogs should have been setting off alarm bells for GC.

Especially since they have a bit of tall talent up fwd. Someone good gets pushed out and doesn't develop as good as he can. Different if you got stuff all fwd options

We did well to quarantine Jamarra from what I can work out, but bad behaviour can be a contagion. See WC in the 2000s, Melbourne’s recent issues, Stringer and Hind bringing bikies into the rooms etc.

There are plenty of sketchy characters out there who love hanging out with AFL players, and it only takes one to invite them in.

It’s possible he’ll get back on the straight and narrow, but looking at guys like Harley Bennell, Ben Cousins and Jack Steven, the reality is a lot of players who get kicked out of one club continue with the same behaviour. They’re taking a big risk.

Agree generally.

There are things we could do better, but we have no historical advantage (no real home ground advantage, no geographical advantage, small base etc) so to perform as we have over the Bevo era has meant we’ve had to be smart elsewhere to compensate.

I think we trade, draft and develop well.

Somebody was always going to bite at Jamarra.

They were also going to absolutely low-ball him on an almost entirely incentive based deal.

Gold Coast have enough KPF depth to be that club. I'd imagine that if it doesn't work they'll just punt him very quickly.

It makes me sad that he's put his career on such a knifes edge.

But soon I won't care one iota.

The Western Bulldogs have agreed to a trade that will see Jamarra Ugle-Hagan move to the Gold Coast Suns next season, with the Club receiving Pick 74 for the key forward.

The 23-year-old joined the Bulldogs as the No.1 pick in the 2020 National Draft, playing 67 games and kicking 103 goals.

Today’s trade means the Bulldogs’ contractual relationship with Ugle-Hagan ends and no ongoing obligations exist.
