The owner of the venue is not going to be making many friends and in fact putting her name and that of Inflation into the back of certain people's minds next time they visit her establishment on an official business.

This is proving the proverb right that says "when there is doubt, there is no doubt!"

"
Police 'over-reacted', nightclub owner says
Nightclub owner Martha Tsamis said in a statement police had "overreacted" to the report, which she claimed was made anonymously.

She said security staff were not concerned by the man.

"Security verified that a plastic toy accessory was displayed to, and passed by security and this information was given to police on arrival," she said."

These claims repeated on TV. Seems she lodged a complaint about the Police conducting a drug bust last week... I'd steer clear of Inflation Nightclub for a while ;)
I've been steering clear of inflations for over 20 years

Sounds like an almighty utensil up by the police. Would not be surprised if the raid was payback after the complaint by the nightclub last week.

"Security verified that a plastic toy accessory was displayed to, and passed by security and this information was given to police on arrival," she said. "Security had no concerns prior to the incident, and advised police on attendance that they were more than happy to deal with any issues."

Ms Tsamis also contradicted the police's account that the man aimed a gun at officers, and said "rather he was in a compromising position with his female partner".

"Obviously, this matter will require further investigation but on the evidence available to us, police have overreacted to an anonymous phone call, ignored the advice of security who did not believe there was [an] incident that required anything more than clarification. As a consequence, two innocent members of the public innocently enjoying each other's company have suffered serious gunshot injuries and it is extremely fortunate that there no fatalities."

Ms Tsamis said outfits and accessories of patrons are checked by security as a condition of entry into the venue.

She said in a separate incident the nightclub last week lodged a complaint against police over a drug search.

What a surprise, Bigfooty's top commie cretin is slinging s**t at cops again.

Do us all a favour and **** off to one of the third world s**t holes you worship so much.

But I like Gough so you don't speak for me so your request would be falling on deaf ears. You on the other hand.......

I genuinely don't, and still find it slightly confronting when I see one carrying a gun. We have very few guns on the streets, and multiple forms of non lethal ways to subdue a suspect. If they're entering a scenario where they believe weapons maybe used it's not unreasonable, but not for you average cop on the street.

I've never understood fear of guns.

Guns are good. I'm glad the public doesn't have free access to them like yanks, but I certainly ain't scared of one for simply existing.

Problem being though is that crims don't usually alert Police as to where and when they shall be committing there next violent crime.

I guess my argument would be that in a place like Adelaide where there is so little violent crime that would require an armed response, arming the police is unnecessary, and an act of intimidation as much as anything else.

I'd be more worried about a copper inappropriately using their torch or baton, as they have to some people very close to me.

I reckon Aus police are responsible with their gun usage.

Well in Melbourne I reckon the cops are well under gunned. General duties cops should have greater access to either sub machine guns like the MP5 or assault rifles like the AR15 than just their semi automatic SW M&Ps. Tis a bloody shame but this is modern life and he who has the bigger gun wins.

Up unit a few years ago it was a disciplinary offence for a Vic Cop to take his or her firearm to the football or cricket at a venue like the MCG. Now days all cops at the footy or cricket brandish not only the semi autos but OC and tasers. Sad.

As Qld cop S/C Brett Forte found when dealing against Rick Maddison, the fully automatic rifle will nearly always beat a semi auto pistol.

First responders in Vic need the firepower instead of waiting for CIRT or SOG to arrive.

The cops who arrived first at this incident waited till CIRT went in to deal with it. Luckily this happened in the CBD but what happens if out of the CBD? As one who deals with both Federal and State cops due to potential threats, I need the first responders to come in and not wait for the big guns to arrive because by then it might be too late for me and others.

Sad, but in 2017 its time for more firepower, lots more firepower for cops and not just the specialist units.

Pretty sure I read a few months ago that guns in Melbourne were coming back via the black market. Who knows if it's a problem Australia wide but I'm really not that bothered by Australian cops using them. The pessimist in me thinks that it's only a matter of time before a regular cop is going to have to act quickly to a situation on a Melbourne street. If that's to happen I'm more than happy with them carrying a gun over a taser or baton.

From what we know there aren't too many instances of police using them wrongly in this country either.
