Analysis the Josh Treacy effect

Wayne Carey kicked 60+ for 7 years out of 8 between Age 22 to 29. One injury ruined year, where he played 14 games but no preseason.

But he has the same agro of Carey, and competitiveness to win but I don't think he is at that level. (Unless he kicks 50+ 7 of the next 8 years)

Interesting Pavlich kicked 60+ 6 years out of 8, in a worse team than Carey.

Pavlich was as good as Carey and Tracey has the same ability in front of goals as be it a better set shot

How lucky are we to have this guy in our team?

The Josh Treacy effect was in full force today.

That was one of the best exhibitions of wet ball marking we have seen in a long time.

12 marks with a slippery ball and most of them contested shows his class and is a testament to his preparation.

Jl said his work ethic and repetitions are the best in the team.

He said he was putting his hands in soapy water and getting teammates to kick it to him.

If he keeps going like this there is an All Australian blazer waiting for him at the end of the season.

Treacy has cemented himself as the barometer for the Fremantle Football Club, I think it has now been confirmed that he is the single most important player on this team, we have a tremendous crop of talent, but nobody else is a better measure of how the team is going than Cyclone himself.

He had a couple of rough years in his first few years in the competition, but he has continued to build himself into one of the best key forwards in the competition. 10 goals in 3 games so far, the commentators keep harping on about how Fremantle haven't had a player kick 50 goals in many years yet, but I think that record is very much set to be broken this year. It has all the makings of it.

You heard David King today, he said Treacy has the best hands he's seen since Wayne Carey. No matter the conditions, he just managed to clunk everything.

Without any shadow of a doubt should this man be our next captain.

I'm going to put my hand up and say I thought Matt Taberner was his ceiling... :pensive:

Love the guy, but he’s gotta get his radar on target. Should’ve had two more goals in the first quarter alone…
Of course, I am entirely confident he’s gunna do the work, Gossage’s early assessment was hilariously wrong 🤭

I'll definitely put my hand up for thinking he never had THIS level in him. Thought he was a guy who would be around 30-40 goals a year with that one career year that was 40+. Now more looking like he'll kick 45 goals a year with a career year that might be above 60. Treacy's POD is that the goals kicked is only half the story though with marking around the ground, disposal and pressure absolutely elite for a key forward. Most important player with the exception of maybe Jackson and he's still not quite in his prime

I'll claim some prescience. It was the maturity/level-headedness and that, even at 19/20, he looked like the prototype key forward.

Treacy reminded me of Michael Apeness early on. They've taken different AFL career trajectories.
