List Mgmt. The KPP thread

Does this thread include ruckman/forwards? This will also need to be addressed sooner rather than later. Dont think Jeremy Goddard
will fall to us, but maybe a chance with Luke Strnadica?
There seems to be many opinions on Hannath, that he is a spud but is he really that bad?
I didnt see the delisting of Moller coming, just thought he needed more time, but now our ruck stocks look dire for the future.
would be exciting to land those two boys, plus McCarthy. Possible? Probably not. But if we did manage to be holding a top 2ick perhaps could downgrade to a couple of later first rounders and be a chance. Personally, I'd be up for the Battle.

Hey Gav56 is that a play on words? Josh Battle?

Luke Strnadica would surely be our pick if he fell to us.. not sure where he is expected to go? Every chance we'll have a top 5 pick though.

Slight frame so will probably need a few years in the system.

I'm not sure Goddard will be gone by our pick. Brodie Grundy was extremely highly ranked and slid. Longer was the same. No ruck has gone top five since Naitanui and barely any go first round unless they are also seen as a potential key forward (which Goddard isn't).

If we end up downgrading our pick into the teens for McCarthy we could be in business going for Goddard. We should be loading up on KPPs this year if possble. They take longer to develop than other players and therefore we may actually have another A.Pearce ready to go by our next window.

Should be trying to get some undervalued KPPs from GWS as well as McCarthy. Stewart has been mentioned earlier whilst Finlayson (young KPD) was mentioned during last year's trade period as potentially being part of the Treloer trade. If we rate a mature aged KPP or ruck at any pick bar our first we should also pull the trigger. Don't mind loading up on KPPs and perhaps having not enough mids for 2017. The ledger will balance out when MJ, Sandi, Griffin, Dawson, Silvagni etc either retire or are delisted. KPPs take longer to develop, we can grab midfielders later if we need more but still if a player we think could be the next Neale/Langdon etc is sitting in front of us at pick 60-odd then take him.

If we get McCarthy, Hogan makes the all the right noices about leaving next year and Apeness strings a few games together do we still want a KPF with our first pick or do we go ruckman or key defender?

I'd be leaning towards Goddard at this stage, especially if as I suspect we end up with a pick in the teens after trading for McCarthy.

It's good that trade and FA is before the draft which I would assume would have a bearing on draft strategy. I think best available of the talls will be the way to go no matter what happens. I wouldn't let the hope of landing Hogan the year after bear too much on it either.

Played cricket with his father and uncle (twins). both tough but quite skinny.

Gotta say Mitch McGovern is going alright for the Crows....seems a natural footballer.

Certainly no disrespect to Harley Balic cause its well early days but hope it doesn't turn out to be a Pitt-Darling type scenario.

Ie. Good young tall marking fwd passed over for a midfielder who's ends up being injury prone

To make things worse we didn't do our due diligence on Balic. Big screw up.

McGovern was '14 draft so the comparison is Blakely not balic

I like the look of McGovern too (and of course lament our unwillingness to pull the trigger on a few speculative talls over the last 5-6 years) but still confident that Blakely will be a good player for us

Yes, Blakely should be a good pick but we are very strong on inside mids a Ballard also got delisted, hindsight is great knowledge but McGovern now looks a better option and looks a natural footballer.

Yeh we did. His dad was at Freo today and Danny and myself had a long chat with him. All clubs had a full medical run down on Harley. His dad said he will be fine. Apparently Dane Swan has the same problem.

In essence we agree that McGovern would have been a great bet but unfortunately within a couple of years (Mundy, Barlow, Neale ?) the inside mid category may not be as stacked as it once was so Blakely could be pretty important

There's a lot more quality inside mids than there is key forwards available every year.

Cheers for the correction Clinteaux!

Obviously not a good comparison then lol

Blakely was a good choice as like most, see him as a Mundy type and the likely replacement when our captain calls it a day.

Maybe we need to recruit the Crows recruiter ;) They seem to go well with drafting KPP's...

Davis, Tippett, Gunston, Walker, Talia, Lever, McGovern

Not sure where they each went in their respective drafts but have gone alright in their careers to date whether still at the crows or not

No worries docker79 the funny thing is Matt rendell the Adelaide recruiter responsible for many of those talls quit in 2012 over a racism row.

Whoever took over has done a great job too with lever and McGovern for a start and in spite of the tippet contract penalties

The main difference in the two is that one has been given opportunities at the top level and the other not.

14 months ago Blakely was the talk of the town after some fantastic performances in the NAB Cup with everyone saying we'd got the bargain of the draft, then...crickets...

Blakely still has time like you say and will now get opportunities with our new selection mentality and I agree, he'll be a good player for us.

Shite...didn't know about the racism stuff...

Well, fingers crossed that we focus on KPP's come draft and trade time
