Totally supportive of that. And enjoy some banter too. Are you aware of defacto's history?
I think we all are (especially his Sheridan avatar after the dropped mark), but in this instance he was fine. Some of the Eagles posters that we tolerate on our board also say some pretty derogatory remarks about our club/players too.

As long as the outsiders are being respectful while on our board I think it's a good thing. Sometimes breaks the groupthink we get when talking amongst ourselves.

It's good reading opposition supporters balanced opinions. As long as they have a bit of respect. Shoot them down with no legit reason reflects stupid and small minded on our supporter.
Just saying☺

Judge posts on their merits I say. But give those with a trolling history (not the Weagles regulars with a civilised track record) a short rein!

If some of the Peel watchers can confirm, I can't really remember but did Alex Pearce ever really stand out at Peel? I can't remember any heated debates on why he should be best 22. So this season he's starting on the outside trying to get back in. From reports it sounds like Silvagni and Collins had the better first game and Pearce was still a little rusty.

What are people's thoughts on how he gets back in. He only got given the initial games last year due to injuries. When he's back to full fitness does he just come back into the team or does he have to surpass Silvagni and to a less extent Collins? In an interview Ross said Pearce was best 22, does that put him ahead of Silvagni by default? What if Pearce continues as he did before and doesn't stand out at Peel, does he spend the whole year at Peel or should we be looking to pump games into him knowing that Johnson/Dawson are in the twilight of their careers?

I do think some players just rise to the talent around them and I think last year Alex Pearce showed he deserved to be in the team.

Thoughts?

I thought Pearce was pressing for selection, but difficult to get past the 3 incumbents, and Silvagni is pretty damn handy. He would need to be pretty amazing to force his way in.

That is the lot of emerging players in strong teams. Hopefully makes them work their butt off. I think it is awesome that Weller knows he will not be gifted games, and I am confident he knows what he needs to produce to be considered. Same for all of them.

after one of the NAB games Lyon name the players missing who were best 22 and A Pearce was among them which says he is rated best 22 by RTB,
I suspect they aren't that fussed about rushing him in though. Ross named him as McPharlin's long term replacement which suggests they view him as a 10 year player so they will build him till he's ready.

From memory in the games leading up to his debut he was impressing a lot.

Yeah I think Tabenator needs more of a chance settle in the forward line and not get dropped every second week.

I don't, hes terrible.

He needs to play 4-5 really good games at Peel and learn to impose himself on a game before he gets another look in.

I remember reading Mathew Scarletts book and their is a story from Mathew Lloyd , saying how the bombers
guys and Lloyd were laughing at him, he had only played about 20 games, and was physically weaker.
Well in a few years Scarlett had his measure, his reading of the play, run out the backline, changed the game.
Kids need time to adjust, shown faith, if they show some fight, hate getting beaten, AFL is more than just
talent.
If their attitude, endeavour is good, we need to give them a decent go.

I think his big problem is his lack of physicality. He just doesn't put his body in enough. If he did he might hold a few more marks.

I think he knows where to run and has good wheels.

I don't think physicality is his problem. He goes in hard enough and certainly never shirks any contests. He doesn't have any mongrel in him but neither does Pav and he can play.

The only 2 problems I see with him are upstairs. He doesn't have a natural football brain and he seems mentally weak. Physically he ticks all of the boxes. But unfortunately mental shortcomings are the hardest to fix and and most often the biggest barrier separating a consistently good player and one that struggles.

In summary, I think any footballer in the AFL would fancy winning the ball when in a 50/50 contest with Tabs. He has a nice mark on occasions, certainly not our worst kick, ok in front of goal, ok tank but geez when the ball hits the ground it feels like he is worst on ground and by a long margin too (I reckon RTB hates that).

He averaged more contested marks per game than Pavlich and Mayne last year, and he was the sub in over half his games.

I reckon if he can minimise his bad points he will be a real weapon. ATM he can go from genius to potato and back again quickly.

He is such a tease.

Hahah what, noone ever in any sport has played at the exact same level their entire career
Of course not, that's so self evident that it barely needs saying, but the best teams and players sustain their consistency of effort over long periods of time. Our drop off in these first few weeks has been precipitous and I put that down to a lack of application. The good news is that if we can fix that we can start winning a few games, our team is certainly good enough.

Agree with this. He does something really good only to do something really average and completely negate the good work he just did. He has all the parts he just needs it to come together and all of a sudden we will have flipping Voltron.
