...all struggled through their preliminary final. At times looked in doubt of winning the game and trailed or it was very tight come three quarter time.

2003 Brisbane played Sydney in Sydney....looked in trouble all game until the last quarter they came home strong.

2004 Port just got over the line against the Saints at home by just a kick even after having the week off.

2005 Sydney trailed the Saints at three quarter time before rallying in the last to finish over the top of them in Melbourne.

2006 West Coast looked in big trouble at half time in Adelaide last year before coming from behind in the second half.

Interestingly only Port had won themself a home final out of that four....and yet won by the smallest margin in the end of all of those games.

I feel confident still because put simply we have the best midfield and we will run the whole four quarters out stronger...but nobody said it would be easy.

We were in control for most of the game the last time we met but still only won by 16 points. I have no doubt that we'll need to bring our A game to beat this Collingwood side.

It will be easy. We will romp home. Our A game is better by miles than any team in the league this year. The Kangaroos thought they were a chance against us in the first final as they had only gone down by 4 goals against us the last time Geelong and the Roos met. This result flattered them though. Every time they got close we went into a gear they weren't capable of and destroyed them. If we didn't rest good players for the start of the last quarter we would have destroyed them then. If Bomber had told the cats to go out and win by as much as possible... who knows...

It's the same with Collingwood. It was obvious that our best was much too good for them. Once again the result flattered them, but we had the game under control all day.

I was glad against the Roos in the qualifying final that we were able to maintain this intensity all day.

Expect a thrashing.

I don't think the Pies will be a pushover and it will probably be much closer than people think. The Pies will be confident coming into this game and will give it their all. Having said that I still think that our side is better overall and our gameplan hard to beat. If we tackle the Pies like we did the Roos then that will go along way to help us win.

But the question is will we bring our A game. I hope so because if we dont we will lose. If we bring our A game i have no doubt we will win.
yeah, just hoping it is the one game when things arent clicking.

if it was a best out of 5 series i reckon we would win 4 out of 5, just hoping that this game is not the one we would drop.

Last time we played, i think Moondog couldn't buy a goal, he had several straight-forward shots that kept Geelong closer than they would otherwise have been. Personally i am hoping the Pies bring in the game level they showed against Richmond, now THAT would be great!!:thumbsu:

Lets hope you are right. The way the cats have gone about it this season you can never rule out them handing someone a thumping.

The North comparison is interesting. I always felt in the game against the Pies as you mention that we were just doing what we had to without really punishing ourselves. I now the Pies have talked up how they can improve but Geelong is the side more likely to do that right at this minute after the week off.

If its wet weather that usually levels the playing field but I really dont see how that will help Collingwood run out the four quarters any better.

Yep mooney kicked 1.4 we had varcoe and hawkins in for ablett and byrnes and those two had 15 possies between them and kicked no goals, we would be expexcting more from our 2 on friday.

plus i know egan isnt playing but cloke kicked 4.1 including 2 bombs from the boundary, even without egan he wont kick that many.

We looked to be cruising all night against the lions (a team that thumped Collingwood at the G) at their home ground and hardly even broke a sweat in 20+ degree heat. If that wasn't showcasing our freakish ability, then nothing would. Apart from Egan going down of course, that was the scariest display we could have put on.

We were on and off against the roos in the home and away games as we were against the pies. We showed what happens when we focus on producing four quarters of intense football, and in the end 106 points could have been a lot more, and that was againt a 'top 4' team. Collingwood are just 'making up the numbers' as others have put it, and after 2 hard slogs are on their last legs. We will rip them to shreds, and by the end of the day I'm guessing there will only be about 50k in the MCG.

The one thing I'm slightly concerned about is trying to back up the qualifying final effort after the week off. Collingwood have momentum on their side after running the Eagles off their legs at the end of the game last week, and will probably come in with their tails up.

The way I see the game panning out will be a little like the Round 15 encounter. Collingwood get a small jump on us until we settle down and get on with the job, and it'll be tight (a couple of goals in it) until halfway through the last quarter when the taxing game last week takes it toll and Geelong kick the last few goals to win by 5 or 6 goals, though if the predicted showers between now and Friday night eventuate, Collingwood might drop off a little earlier.

That's what I hope anyway. :)

First off Kangaroo game. Out the window. gone.
Geelong will win this game if their backline dominates. We will win the midfield. Our forward will be fairly even if not better than Collingwoods defence. Our backs can slaughter the pies by running off at every half chance and creating rebound pressure straight away. We have the fitness to sustain this all game. Can they? Our backs will not have the same amount of pressure on them due to the way our forwards and midfields slow the movement of the ball down so much. They have more time to see how the ball is coming in and prepare as well as more time to recover between bursts. Expect big from mackie, wojo, scarls, corey and lingy ( he drifts down back a lot). 3 of those players with more than 20 possies and its ours by a mile.
In the middle its simply a case of higher quality. Dane Swan is their flagship midfielder and he gets a lot of the ball but is ineffective. Intense tackling pressure will see him cough it up. Gary Ablett and James Bartel. What more to be said. These two cop so much attention yet still perform brilliantly. They have allowed Ling to concentrate on full time tagging, given Selwood an armchair ride in his first year and driven our midfield all year. They are immensely strong (hard to tackle) and skillful so bring on the rain it suits them.
Forward line could be more even then some expect. The depth of geelong should show though. After friday I'm hoping Collingwood supporters are desperately trying to turn back the clock and recruit Steve Johnson. Chappie will play the only way her knows how; he is the definition of white line fever. Stokesy will hurt collingwood as he works so hard to make himself a threat. He doesn't wait for the chance to come along to damage them he creates. Brilliant football brain and one i can't especially see collingwood matching up on. Moons has it the toughest of the lot playing on clement but i think his new found maturity should help him here.

Dangers; Thomas and Didak.

Lets go cats

mmmm. i think collingwood might try and pull out some trickery to unsettle us. I can see them "mass flooding" at the start of the game to keep it close and frustrate Geelong, the score card and the spectators.

Lets hope we thrash this mob...would be a very bitter pill to swallow if we got beat.
