Thought it was pretty good? Standard sort of ep that goes back and fills in the blanks.

Sucks they didnt do the dinosaur wing of the museum. It looks like they shot stuff there from the making of at the end of the episode.
i adore the games, and the gut punch of the porch scene placement it the game was so much more impactful. But they cant keep that for season 3/4

Based on the promo for the season final it features a cut storyline from the game when it was going to be 5 days
Ellie on seraphite island

You play the game through the fog of life that was covid lockdown and as the years pass so much is forgotten. But one glimpse of a scene and it all comes flooding back.

I'm not generally a huge fan of flashback episodes.

The quality was definitely still there, I just saw it as a bit of a pointless episode. You get a little bit of context but it really didn't achieve much else for me.

It was certainly a slow burn with a filler feeling until it got the latter parts, and especially once Pedro started bringing the absolute feels which made it feel worth it. The whole thing with Eugene (Cypher from The Matrix if anyone thought he seemed familiar) was also pretty heartbreaking.

My partner isn't so enamoured with this season though. Thinks its not terribly interesting and lacks zombies for a zombie show 😅 I guess she's just not into the overarching narrative.

There has been a little bit of that feel for me as well. Having not played the game, I just assumed they'd continue to play a big role throughout but it hasn't really happened that way this season.

Good ep. followed the game real and Pedro nailed the scene at the end.

Thought it may have been too slow, but I found it not to be so.

However 1 episode left sucks.

Ellie is still a teenage brat arseh*le. If the show needed Joel to be of interest maybe they shouldn't have killed him.

They didn't know they needed Joel, they thought following the games (mostly) would be enough.

The problem is they have turned Ellie from a young adult, being driven/blinded by revenge, into a whiny little campaigner.

I don't hold Bella Ramsey fully accountable either.

This all lands on Druckmann.

Yeah, people had serious issues with the game, but the characterization of Ellie wasn't close to the top of that list.

Why he's made these changes to her character, to the story, and to his direction for both Ill never understand.

Pedro was pretty great in this. Joel is such an interesting character. The moral ambiguity of the man who can kill people without batting an eyelid and then lie about it like a serial killer, plus being the protector who puts himself in danger to save others (especially Ellie). I have read some criticisms online about how they dumped all this into one episode, while the game spreads these flashbacks out as Ellie comes to understand what Joel did in Salt Lake City, compared to what Abbie did in killing Joel. It leads to a story-defining decision for Ellie when she finally confronts Abbie. So dumping all this now was criticised as taking the easy path for the sake of new viewers. I won't say anymore because it might give things away for those who never played the game and thus have no idea what's coming. I never played the game, but this article I read spoiled it for me. Oh well.

All this episode confirmed to a non gamer is that what happens in a game does not translate into a solid tv drama experience; killing Joel/Pedro ruined this show

Yeah that was a major surprise to me never having played the game. Fair enough if his death was toward the end of the series but it's bang in the middle (as far as I can tell).

Yeah my missus can't stand Ellie. Hard to blame her when the show hasn't many moments for the character to show off a caring, good-hearted and vulnerable side. It's all been brattish and self-obsessed behaviour.

To be fair, killing Joel in the game (and many other aspects of part 2 the game) was incredibly divisive as well. The show was never going to land with everyone.

Really 2 years? ffs Why?

That’s what HBO seem to be going for with most of their shows these days. Game of Thrones Season 7 to 8 was a 21-22 month wait, House of the Dragon Season 1 to 2 was around the same timeframe (and likely between 2-3), Last of Us season 1 to 2 was 27 months (and that was 7 episodes for Season 2 when Season 1 had 9). TLOU Season 3 hasn’t started filming yet ( apparently in June/July), so it will be the 2 year mark again.

I wish HBO would just go back to yearly releases like Game of Thrones Season 1-6 had (in fact right on 12 months) and those were monster seasons of 10 episodes each, filming in multiple countries and locations.

$$

Better than cancelling them or lowering quality.
