Never heard about Station Eleven until now and looking it up, seems really on the other end of the spectrum of TWD. Station Eleven without reading spoilers seems to be an ultra slow burn character driven. Could be wrong but was on the fence after watching the trailer as I was intrigued but hoping you could give a bit more info.

Station Eleven is brilliant and one of the most underrated and under appreciated shows out there.

But yes, it is far more character driven, if not entirely character driven. It’s a different take on the post apocalyptic world where not everyone is bad, although very damaged. I highly recommend it.

Yeah, pretty much this. Thematically it's going for something very different than TLOU, but where TLOU could be similar is interrogating the characters with more emotional depth. Something it tries to do but hasn't quite succeeded.

I read the book to Station Eleven but ended up not even finishing the TV show. There were a couple of things from the book that they changed that I really didn't like, not big things but enough to annoy me. That happens sometimes, can't please everyone. I mean I didn't hate it, but it didn't bother me when my streaming sub expired before I got to the end of it.

Pedro was pretty great in this. Joel is such an interesting character. The moral ambiguity of the man who can kill people without batting an eyelid and then lie about it like a serial killer, plus being the protector who puts himself in danger to save others (especially Ellie). I have read some criticisms online about how they dumped all this into one episode, while the game spreads these flashbacks out as Ellie comes to understand what Joel did in Salt Lake City, compared to what Abbie did in killing Joel. It leads to a story-defining decision for Ellie when she finally confronts Abbie. So dumping all this now was criticised as taking the easy path for the sake of new viewers. I won't say anymore because it might give things away for those who never played the game and thus have no idea what's coming. I never played the game, but this article I read spoiled it for me. Oh well.
Yeah there are no real righteous or completely 'good' characters. Love it.

Was struck by it a few times with Dina as well, for example when she indicates to Ellie she's ok with killing any WLFs who get in their way even if they weren't with Abby's crew. Unsure if I'm not remembering the game properly, but I thought she came across as more of a motivating factor in the TV show. Seemed like there were times Ellie would have packed it in and gone back to Jackson if not for Dina confirming the thirst for vengeance in their convos. Kinda thought it was the other way around but its been awhile since I played it.

Putting Ellie's own curiosity about potential vaccines/cures aside, how would we as viewers envision that working?

The big immunity angle in the games relates to the airborne spores. That walking into a room could literally kill you via infection before you even knew you were breathing them in.

They took that out of the show so I always wonder what they think they are curing/preventing?

These monsters are ripping limbs off and biting chunks out of people's bodies. That the fungus takes control of the dead body afterwards is largely irrelevant when it comes to a vaccine.

So what are we meant to think the doctor was trying to create in the show's universe?
Yeah its an oft debated point ie. exactly how viable any vaccine would be even if Ellie did give her life to create it. The clickers aren't going to be reverted to human form, brain has been replaced by fungus. And thats before you even get to any consideration about how you'd go about mass producing and distributing it.

I think at most it would be handy for the group who managed to synthesize it in their immediate area in that it gives them immunity from bites. But probably not the earth-saving achievement people kinda assume it to be when they hear the word 'cure'. The world seems pretty decisively ****ed and unlikely to return to what it was, vaccine or not.

As long as it was Bon Scott era Acca. Dirty Deeds or just imagine her doing intro to Metallica's Enter Sandman. Gamers would've gone off their heads
In the game you could free play Ellie's guitar, pretty much any note you wanted I think.

Unsure who takes the time to get this good at a console controller guitar simulator, but gamers being who they are quite a few did lol, there are some good ones out there

Team Changes:

OUT: Neil Druckmann (Omitted... Or Retired, depending on which you want to believe)

"I've made the difficult decision to step away from my creative involvement in The Last of Us on HBO. With work completed on season 2 and before any meaningful work starts on season 3, now is the right time for me to transition my complete focus to Naughty Dog and its future projects, including writing and directing our exciting next game, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, along with my responsibilities as Studio Head and Head of Creative. Co-creating the show has been a career highlight. It's been an honor to work alongside Craig Mazin to executive produce, direct and write on the last two seasons. I'm deeply thankful for the thoughtful approach and dedication the talented cast and crew took to adapting The Last of Us Part I and the continued adaptation of The Last of Us Part II."
