I'm up to 61% into the game. Because yeah I'm lagging.
Hit the big scene after the bridge, plot and character development really motoring along now. I thought we were going to wake up to find the kid gone or he would've killed himself.
Got up to the hydroplant before calling it quits last night. The dialogue is so damn good. I actually find clickers the least scary things in the game as they are easier to manipulate than the human enemies and the runners seem to spot me from a mile out.
Finally finished the SP after getting very distracted by the MP. Big call but think the best game I have ever played, certainly the most atmospheric and immersive. Played alot of sections with lights out and headphones on, faaaaark, just insane.
Realtime health/crafting/weapon changes FTW, other games that let you pause will just feel like cheating now.
Bioshock was great but think this has it covered for GOTY by a long way to be honest. GTA a slim chance I guess but geez it will have to be ridiculous.
And wow that ending..
Read earlier in this thread and elsewhere online that Joel lied to Ellie to protect her. Don't think so, agree with others who have said the lie was more 'selfishly' motivated - in Ellie he had found something to live for and knew he wouldn't be able to keep going if she wasn't around. And having lost his daughter 20 years ago he was simply unwilling to go through that again - the hospital bit right at the end when he was carrying her was amazing, perfect call back to the prologue stuff with Sarah.
I thought one or both of them would die. Agree with whoever said it wasn't a fairytale ending, more a 'well this is the best we can do with what we got' ending. Gutsy decision and pretty amazing for a game to end like that, usually its more binary. The more I think about it the more I like it, really fits with the tone of the game.
Back to the MP for a bit before I start another playthrough. Usally stick to supply raid, would play more survivors as I think its my preferred mode but its just too risky if you care at all about the survivors meta game - run into a good team and its all over in 4 rounds and about 6 minutes of gameplay = lotsa sick/hungry people in camp tonight. Conversely it can be great for boosting your parts if teams are evenly matched and you get 6 or 7 rounds out of it but yeah, too risky. Great fun overall though.
