As an Essendon supporter, I'll nominate Collingwood in 1990 as the last pure premiership win.

No lead up tribunal nonsense, no salary cap questions, no behind play hits, no drugs, just a coach who aspired to the romantic notion of leading Collingwood to an enventual premiership.

May have forgotten something that happened during 1990 but which premiership really does stands without questionable conduct or ethics.

2005 Hall suspension, 2004 good win but the coach post match tainted it, 2003,2002, 2001 salary cap concession questions, 2000 Chirs Grant's goal, 1999 Kennett making Essendon footballers vote on prelim final day, 1998 1997 Adelaide being supported by Adelaide supporters, 1996 reasonably pure, 1995 salary cap, 1994 silly finals system (applies to a few other years), 1993 Silvagni touched it, 1992 Ben Cousins barracked for them, 1991 not played at the MCG

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read.

... 1998 1997 Adelaide being supported by Adelaide supporters ...
WTF??

Adelaide's flags in 97 and 98 weren't "pure" because Adelaide was supported by Adelaide supporters?

Please explain.

Do you really care about his opinion? its just gonna be some baiting crap.

To a certain extent you are correct. Should be in bay 13.

To be honest I see 1997 as very pure. Live out of Melbourne but near the western hiway. Trying to make a right hand turn onto the hiway on the friday afternoon was impossible. To many cars going past with crow scarves hanging out the window.

Whilst waiting and waiting to make said turn, remarked "with support like this they deserve to win". But then you had the crazy finals system of the time and Colberts mark.

The taint of 1998 was Carey not kicking straight early, you were buried. You can have 1998.

I was going to say that I like the way Snrub thinks, there wasn't any crap leading up the Grand Final like other games.

But then I remembered the way Collingwood got there. The AFL stuffed up big time for not allowing for the possibility of a drawn final. Stupid mess all round.

Very good point, Cousins was a Geelong supporter growing up, so much so he was actually at the 94 grand final barracking for Geelong
Chose West Coast over Geelong on the father son because his heart was with West Coast.

That's the way story goes as far as I know. Irrespective, regardless and without doubt, the first flag of a franchise club is motivated by money not heart.

AFter going to melbourne many times, I can say that the Adelaide supporters are nothing in comparison to Essendon supporters. If you take a collingwood supporter and give them half a brain and some arrogance you have an Essendon supporter.

Was this the crazy finals system that saw us win every game for the whole finals series? geez how crazy can you get. We beat West Coast in a home final, due to the fact we finished above them. Colbert's mark should have been paid, but it made no difference to the result, as we outscored them significantly in the last quarter. There were also 2 Modra marks that should have been paid.

We then beat the Bulldogs in Melbourne in a great game and then of course beat the Saints whilst missing 4 crucial players through injury and losing 2 bench players in the first quarter. How this could be anything less than a "pure" result is beyond me.

There was a big question mark about Geelong (finishing second) having to travel to play the team that finished fourth and, of course there was libbas goal. Put its on the side of impure.

West Coast's last year has a taint was the point of the thread. Bay 13 thread.
