Dude, it is 90% mundane crap. :)

Yes, but I want to know procedural structures so I don't end up getting r*ped by a lawyer every time I have a legal issue.

I am going ahead with the study but I have decided to shelve the degree. I have decided on a 2 year diploma of law, then I will seek to do the LIV criminal law accreditation.

Every now and then I sell a few pages on eBay - say if I want a new Aston Martin or something.

Well truth be told I'm only learning law so I can figure out how to rob people like you can get away with it. In the interest of irony, send me your notes. Free of charge.

I suppose there is merit in me helping law n00bs like you and Chief so that I can employ you as my minions at some point in the future, like those evil monkeys from the Wizard of Oz

Oh really fool?

Guaranteed I'm emperor of Australia within ten years. You are my property then (we're invading England and every other white country, got a massive "white devil extermination policy" planned) and we'll see who bosses who around.

I will simply move offshore to rejoin my assets!

Never knew this thread was here until now! :o

Law/Engineering?! They will make you stand in the middle of the Oak Lawn during the annual Blackstone vs UEC food fight and get pelted by all and sundry. Wear a hat.

Just what is a socio-legal subject and why the hell are they making me do it? It's enough to make one throw one's hair dryer!

Is that the same stuff that they're making me do regarding Law and Society? All that rubbish about legal theories (in a way, I see it as a foreword or introduction to Jurisprudence). Dworkin, Bentham, Austin..
any of those names ring a bell?

Anyone know a book which has examples of how to write a settlement agreement or a release document? Something that has phrases or paragraphs that are commonly used in the documents. I just need some book or source that I can reference besides my own brain.

Try the encyclopaedia of forms and precedents.

Anyone got any idea of what to do when you're convinced that your Constitutional Law professor is just wrong on a point of law? I've been backed up on this by a silk and another barrister.

Short of taking it to the High Court (which seems a tad overreactive) I think I'm stuck.

Yeah I've had a look at that but couldn't find an example which was relevant to my case.

I'm doing constitutional at the moment as well. Boring as hell. What is the lecturer wrong about? there isn't much you can do then put up with it. You could speak to the course coordinator though and see what they say.

He seems to have gotten characterisation backwards relating to the Corporations power due to the Work Choices Case.

And he is the course co-ordinator and the most eminent person in the field in SA, so c'est la vie.

Oh god that sucks. I guess you just have to put up with him until you finish the subject. Make sure to say what he thinks is right when it comes to the exam though;)

You might wanna talk directly to him about that topic. From very distant and vague memory, characterisation in the WorkChoices case was notable for the fact that it was done 'backwards'. Read the case, full judgment that is. Read all commentary on the case relating to the topic. Then talk to your prof.

When waying up reading 238 pages worth of judgments, taking the time to understand them and then formulating a reasonable argument I think I'll just take the hit in a redeemable assignment:p

Any case other than Work Choices however ...;)

I am considering studying law, but am unsure at what level.

  • Bachelor of Laws
  • Graduate Certificate of Law
  • Graduate Diploma of Law
  • Master of Commercial Law

I doubt I'll pursue the Bachelor degree as I don't want to practice law. For background purposes, I have an undergraduate degree with law as a minor stream.

Any advice would be most welcome :)

Law ftw!
