The Liberal Party - How long? - Part 2

Even when they’ve rendered themselves irrelevant the media still wants to make them relevant. I’d rather they turn their gaze to keeping Labor accountable and not drunk on power.

They are the party of self interest…. Self reflection is not a quality that the born to rule mob are good at.

Celebrating the no vote because it was a win!!! a hit on Labor is just sickening … they really are scum.

Hopefully.

This is why the Liberals cannot reform - the tail is wagging the dog and that is not going to change.

We can look forward to three more years of men in suits telling us how it should be and conservative Australian rallying all their resources - farmers, oligarchs, media, etc. - to get in the way of any renewable progress. Wind farm bad. Solar farms bad. Distribution upgrades bad. Everything except burning coal and gas bad.
What’s hilarious is farmers that get renewables on their land - either get to lease out steep rocky and hilly land that’s only good for livestock to graze - and they can still graze it with wind farms - or they can ditch their crappiest bit of salt blighted acreage that produces nothing to solar plants….

Either way they turn a non productive / minimally productive area into a completely drought/ weather resistant income stream.

Every time they drive past they are smiling!!

Yep, solar farms are increasing productivity especially grazing sheep. The shade from the panels increases grass growth and holds the moisture in the ground longer.
The sheep saves the solar farms maintenance costs and fire risks by keeping the grass down.

It’s a win win win .

Any objection is purely political. It is farmers involved in the National Party pulling the party line. It is not based on reason, evidence or fact - it is purely ideology which is completely consistent with their climate change denial.

This is the fundamental problem facing the LNP - they do not act in good faith and the electorate can see that.

The farmers are used as a ruse…they are just puppets for the real crew that don’t want renewable energy, it’s not hard to join the dots…

The Coalition air their laundry in the open a lot more than the ALP, so they get a lot more of this coverage. The LNP have multiple overlapping factions out in the open.

The ALP has multiple less-overlapping factions who hate each other with a passion. But they keep it in-house better.

The media do treat it like a game and always separate the horse-trading from the horses.

Pointing out that certain policy political wins have downstream impacts which result in poor outcomes for citizens.

Yep, I'd be absolutely filthy with the Nats (and the Libs) if I were a farmer.

But....they're small business people. All the instant asset write-offs have given them all new Ford Ranger yank tanks with sweet tax write offs.

And I'm not sure the farmers care if they get solar panels, wind farms, or gas wells, most of them don't envision their family on the land for another generation.

The Nationals appear to exist for the continued well being of the people of New England.

Kinda a meh episode. Nothing we already didn't know. Should have got into more analysis on why and how the polling was so bad.

Maria Kovacic always impressed me. She performed well in Parramatta in 2022 given that the Libs were going down with SlowMo. She makes more sense than the vast majority of Coliation. Same with Jason Falinsky.

I switched to Sky AD to browse Credlin and Bolt. Such negativity towards Labor. It's more accurate to say it drums up a sense of injustice that the Coalition isn't governing. I can see why the base of LNP thinks the party djould move further right.
What a lame puff piece from 4 corners. Feels like an attempt to let them rehab their image.

That's Karvelas for you. One of the most overrated political journalists currently going around in Australia. The ABC has fallen on hard times in terms of actual meaty analysis of politics in Australia, and it will fall further behind once Laura Tingle leaves 7.30 Report. Speers and Karvelas are nowhere near as insightful as their predecessors at the ABC, while Gruber is an ex-AFR hack.

Falinsky is a close mate of Tim Wilson and is behind the "Australians for Prosperity" group. Based on his previous go-round in Parliament, he's pretty much only interested in issues that affect his wealth personally.

Speers attended a Liberal Party strategy meeting at Lachlan Murdoch's Sydney home when he was at Sky - I think it was the Morrison election but I could be wrong. He should not be eligible for his position at the ABC.

I know Barry Cassidy was a Labor advisor but that was a formal position and declared. Laura Tingle was obviously a Liberal staffer.

Attending Liberal strategy meetings as a member of the 4th estate is entirely another matter.

will these arrogant rightists ever learn? not a huge fan of brandis, but his take on the election on 4 corners was on the mark. they are speaking to an ever-narrowing extreme right echo chamber.

You're so sensible. And the patience of a Saint.

Sure, Im under no illusion that Falinski is a socialist. The fact that he can recognise LNP can't be re-elected and he is a moderate is hopeful... The democracy needs a healthy opposition. I'm a Labor supporter BTW.

What does it say about the state of the party that people are looking at a war mongering creationist and saying hey that guy is the future?
He’ll be easy to unsettle on the floor during debate, “the person sitting opposite me believes that the universe is only 6000 years old, he’s only out by the margin of believing Los Angeles to New York is only 8 yards, he’s best ignored on anything other than faith, belief without evidence”.
Labor should culture war the war hero!

He was kept quiet during the campaign because of his comments on women in combat. It’d be a massive drag on his persona if he gained a national profile. Similarly with his comments on China. It’s not as if Chinese Australians and women are 2 groups the Liberals are aiming to win back right?

The only reason he’s been touted as a leader is because the right still has a fetish for the military and the SAS. No other reason.

And Christendom, the Liberals desire a “white male christian” leader, it’s their holy trinity ejaculate.
Given that our huge and ever growing Indian population is not a singular deity worshipping community, that also has its historical origins beyond Hasties view of the age of our universe and planet, his position will be untenable within a few years!
Christianity in our country is a minority cult, so be it, a celebratory chink of full glasses to secularism and freedom from superstitions nonsense!
We’ll deal with the others as they rear their ugly heads!👍

I wish Christianity was a minority, but it still has way too much influence at the top end of town for my liking

Yes. Remove the legislative ban on nuclear and let the market decide.
heard of market imperfections?

a market imperfection example in this case is who pays for the storage/management of waste (for a very long time).

water usage, who decides to get a scarce resource, the market (not the environment, agriculture, industry).

The old invisible hand, has many problems. Soley leaving public policy to the market, mmmm, might not result in optimal resource allocation (economics 101)

Give it a generation or two.
The nazarene is an ever receding fictional character in our countries future.
I’m more concerned about AI to be honest, in this country anyway!
