The Liberal Party - How long? - Part 2

In a bizarre twist (not that anything is bizarre with the Liberals in SA these days) disgraced former SA Liberal leader and convicted cocaine supplier David Speirs threatened to return to contest his former southern suburbs seat of Black as an Independent, where he remains popular, if Hurn did not get elected as party leader. Probably reflective of his seeming resentment over the role Tarzia played in his downfall prior to his dug convictions.

Speirs was the one who convinced Hurn to run as a Liberal candidate when she first considered entering politics as an independent.
Spiers clearly wants to get back into Parliament, given how he keeps popping up the media talking about issues such as the Algal Bloom - my prediction is he's hoping Rushton will back him to run as the Liberal candidate for the seat.

That's bizarre. You'd think that footage of him snorting a substance in his kitchen; then claiming it was a deep fake; and then making a youtube video claiming he was the victim of a Deep-State conspiracy involving the SA Police; and then pleading guilty to two charges of supplying an illicit substance would kill any chance of him making a comeback to public life.

Apparently not. We live in strange times.

Sadly but 100% on brand, the freshly minted leader of the SA Liberals has outlined her first policy..

If elected the Liberals will throw out legislation enacted by the Malinauskas government to give SA indigenous peoples a Voice to SA Parliament.

Now I too have issues about the effectiveness of this body and the reasons for its creation in the lead up to the national referendum but fancy being so bereft of a vision for the state that you make an attack on Indigenous South Australians the opening announcement of your leadership.

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

Barrosa Valley nepo kid.

Just needs someone who is good at it to get a foothold.
I honestly read this as ‘hold a football’.

Embarrassingly I didn’t raise an eyebrow - just assumed you were making some kind of astute point or an analogy with the football or something, and didn’t want to admit that I didn’t understand it.

I was working a function recently and John Howard was there. He’s not far off the nursing home. Still walking, and without even the aid of a stick, but he’s aging at a dramatic rate.

Not that it was doing them any good anyway, but I doubt we’ll see the Libs wheeling him out in any future election campaigns.

Janette was looking sprightly though, so maybe she can step up to the plate.

He is 86 years old.

Here's some more age comparison stuff to give you pause on a Thursday morning:

Sussan Ley's age: 64 on Sunday
John Howard's age at 2001 election: 62
Malcolm Fraser's age at 1983 election: 52

Sounds the right age to run for President of the USA.

Howard is 3 years older than Biden and 7 years older than Trump.

Trump, George W Bush and Bill Clinton were are all born in a 3 month period in 1946. Their date of first election as President?

Clinton: 1992
Bush: 2000
Trump: 2016

Fairly solid trend happening there.
