Re: Fight Fire With Fire !!!!

Completely agree about the experience part. In some ways having a game like that in the Preliminary Final - playing poorly, struggling, but still winning - could be the perfect preparation. They know what's required, and they know they have to improve on last week.

The next 3 days can't pass soon enough.
can you stop changing your signature line every day?????

Re: Fight Fire With Fire !!!!

Seems to me to me that as we Geelong supporters get closer to the big stage we are almost taking a back seat to Port in terms of arrogance and confidence. Not suggesting we resort to the crap that Mark Williams Chad Cornes and Co have been dribbling but I certainly think we should be more confident than many posters on here appear to be.

fact: we're the #1 attacking side in the afl
fact: we're the #1 defensive side in the afl
fact: we're one of the best clearance sides in the afl
fact: we're one of the best tackling sides in the afl
fact: we have arguably the best 2-3 midfielders on form (ablett - bartel - corey dominated brownlow voting over the 22 weeks)
fact: bookies have us red hot favouries $1.30 to Port $3.50 (they can't have the market framed that poorly)
fact: yes - Port have a slight advantage with Brogan and Lade but it was only worth a narrow victory a few weeks back.
fact: in that same game we were missing a brownlow medallist - all australian and the 2007 rising star (and propably 80+ quality stats) and got beaten with the last kick of the day)

I honestly think we played our grand final last week in terms of some players being over-awed by the occasion. You can't tell me that Ling Chapman Selwood Mackie and others will play 2 games like that in a row.

That Pies game is arguably the best hitout we could have had - whereas Port were running around high fiving each other from after half time. Both sides come from a "fish-bowl" environment where the weight of expectation is massive - so I don't subscribe to Chad Cornes theory that we have more to lose (it's a grand final for gods sake) You don't honestly thing at the 20 minute mark of the final qtr Gary Ablett Jnr will be thinking about what Gary Ablett Snr did out there in 1989 ?????

I think Port can argue a slight advantage in the ruck and 10 players with premiership experience - as for the latter, once the first 5 minutes are out of the way it's irrelavent.

So please - can we see more positive commentary from our own and let's not get sucked into the mind games before the ball is even bounced.

Something horrible will have to go wrong for us not to be very excited come 5.30pm on Saturday.

:):):):):):):)
Great post.

Totally agree, lets look at the game as half full, with more to come instead of the other way around.

I've been pretty positive all season, picked the guys to finish second behind West Coast so I think we have to be totally positive and give it everything.

Too bad a lot of us miss out on being there, but will be at a mates place in Geelong talking us up. I think we have gone and outshone ourselves this year, and we still look for improvement.

Can't wait

Read in the Herald Sun that the last time a team won a PF by 80+ points they crashed and burned in the grand final to the tune of 61 points.

Port Adelaide beat the Kangaroos by 87 points in a final in 2005. The following week they played the team who finished the H&A season on top of the ladder and were thrashed by 83 points. Their margin over the Roos last week? 87 points, and we all know where Geelong finished on the ladder after the H&A season. ;)

Best omen yet.

It's been a while since I recieved my membership pack, and for the last few months I've had no idea where my stickers and such had gone. I'd also woken up after a big one the night after we beat the hapless kangaroos, and checking my wallet, I had no idea where my membership card was. I assumed that I had been showing it off all night, and had misplaced it somewhere. :(

Well, today, it was a bit cold, so I decided I'd wear my jacket. I reached into my jacket pocket, and there was my membership card! Score = 1. When I got home, I decided I'd have a look for my members pack, and I'd wear some members stickers on whatever I wear on grand final day... Now, my house is a ****ing pig sty, and it's hard to find the sink, let alone a tiny members pack... But guess what, underneath the first pile of junk I turned over, there was my members pack, and to make the find even sweeter, all the stickers and what not were inside the plastic envelope - all still in perfect condition!!! Score = 2!!!

How happy I am! Anyway, just thought I'd share that with you guys! The signs are looking good! I'm optimistic! GO THE MIGHTY CATTERS!

How the lid disappeared.:D

Cast your minds back to the Richmond game , i remember the week leading up
to the game and thinking we aren't looking to flash at the moment.
And then sat down to watch the game and was really shocked to see them play like that.
And then the next week we were due to play West Coast who at that stage were undefeated. Thinking to myself there is a chance(more hope than anything) that we could beat them.
And then Fremantle at skilled(thinking 2005) and we beat them.

And then you think to yourself, well that is three straight its starting to look better(hope).
And then comes Port at AAMI (don't need to mention our record there) and i sit down and watch the game and think to myself is this the start of something special(again more hope) and i rate that win better than our Richmond game(record at AAMI).

Then the Saints game and every time they challenge in the first half we respond. Second half we blow them away.
Well that is five straight we should make the eight(hope).

Then bloody Adelaide at AAMI, do we have a worse record against anyone?
If we come close i will be happy(not really but one does tell oneself these things sometimes) and what happens they challenge all day but we prevail.

Are they finally starting to show the potential that us Cats supporters have seen for awhile.(a little more hope)
Brisbane at home we should win this and they not only win it but give those bastards some of what they gave us for a few years(boys v men).
And then Sydney and again we show this resolve especially in the last quarter we have a few injuries and we stand strong.

Bombers game (walk in the park).
After 30 years as a supporter i think to myself we are looking really good(keep a lid on).
Collingwood game, big crowd finals like pressure they challenge all day we prevail(how good are these boys).
Bloody Bulldogs beat us in the first game this year(have good record against us) and the first half was bloody sensational.

And then the Fremantle game. The first game i have been to live in 5 long years and what a bloody day.
After the game i think to myself is this the year(no longer hope).
The dominoes continue to fall Richmond, Adelaide and the Kangaroos.
Fifteen bloody straight, now i am getting excited(Lid is getting loose).
And then Port, we have THREE VERY IMPORTANT PLAYERS out, and nearly snatch the game.I think if we had just one of those players the result would have been different.

How will we go after losing a game? Back to business and another good win against Brisbane in Brisbane.(we are no longer shit interstate)

End of season three games clear and percentage on top!!!!

Two good finals wins later and we are in the GRAND FINAL!!!!

Nine All Australians!
The rising star of 2007!
The Brownlow medalist of 2007!
Are we that good?
You bloody bet we are and Port will find out on Saturday.

I am 35 years old and never seen my beloved side win a flag, but this year is different for all the right reasons.

We have a good bunch of boys who are determined to go all the way!!!!!!

2007 the year of the CAT!
