Ok maybe I'm immature, I accept that. But The Lion King is a special movie to me. It was the first ever movie I saw in cinemas with my Dad and I watched it on VHS throughout my childhood probably a million times. Introduced me to many aspects of life, especially death, which I hadn't experienced before.

The trailer dropped last Friday

Whilst my jaw hit the flaw, I'm actually kind of concerned about this movie. I just don't know how they are going to translate animated charachters to 'live-action' singing/talking lions. The animated charachters expressed relatable emotions in their faces, if you look at the final shot in the trailer of Simba roaring, I see none.

Unless they dramatically change the tone of the movie to far more serious, which I can't see them doing that much as it's still a kids movie, it could be a bit 'off'.

Anyway, still excited to see it, who else is?

Yeah. I'll check it out. Was sceptical about the jungle book movie too and turned out alright.

I’ve seen it.

It’s ‘fine’. The animation and scenery of the movie is unbelievable, no doubt they will pick up an Oscar or two for effects.

But it just didnt translate well into a ‘live action’, animals don’t convey emotion that well so it really fell flat in a lot of scenes. A lot of charm that the original had was lacking, but mainly due to the limitation put upon themselves by making it ‘realistic’.

The Mufasa death scene was bad... was just weird. Felt really rushed along with a lot of scenes. Beyoncé was a total miscast.
Young Simba, Timon and Pumba were the highlight. Was great to hear James Earl Jones, probably the last time we will hear his voice on the big screen again.

Music was great, it’s Hans Zimmer, can’t go wrong there

6/10 for me.

I saw it yesterday and thought the same thing. The hyenas weren’t funny at all and Be Prepared sucked. I enjoyed the movie but much much prefer the original.
Yeah thought given they had Keegan Michael Key and Eric Andre they could have done sooooo much more with the hyenas than the same joke every time.

I also hated what they did to Hakuna Matata and how they shoehorned an extra Beyoncé song in.
Yeah Hakuna Matata wasn't amazing but I did think Timon and Pumbaa were the highlights.

I saw it and loved it. The only voice that fell flat for me was Donald Glover.

The best voices were Seth Rogen and Billy Eitchner and the kid that played young Simba.

The movie looked stunning. Didn't really see the issue with the CGI, thought it all looked great.

I may be alone on this ledge but I liked what they did with Be Prepared.

I really liked it. Clearly the original is going to be better but I went in wanting a visually impressive retelling of one of my favourite movies and I got it. There were some rushed scenes and poor performances *cough* Beyonce *cough* but overall the cast did really well. I was most worried about the new guy butchering scar but thought he did a good job for someone who wasn't Jeremy Irons as they were the scenes I enjoyed the most, ignoring the disappointing version of Be Prepared...

Just going off the trailer I thought it was weird they seemed to be modelling the cinematography and lighting on nature documentaries instead of theatrical movies set in Africa. 'Realism' =/= hyper-realistic.
