Seeing your bronze medals up there made me think of the Kookaburras. Win just about everything between Olympics, but fail to win the gold medal - except for 2004.

They won silver in Tokyo but 4 bronzes between 1996 and 2012. We bombed out in 2016.

Yeah but just remember, as Ken was so keen to tell Tredders the other day, the 2004 team did the same thing before they ultimately saluted. You'll be eating your words when Ken is premiership coach next year!

Couldn’t be bothered having a look to see if this was done yet, but this one is pretty straight forward.

Coaches with most games and zero flags
Rodney Eade 377
John Northey 315
Ross Lyon 305
Bob Rose 282
Terry Wallace 247
Gary Ayres 223
Neale Daniher 223
Nathan Buckley 218
Brad Scott 211
Ken Hinkley 203

Of those coaches only 3 haven’t made a GF
Terry Wallace
Brad Scott
Ken Hinkley

Excluding finals, should Ken see out his contract he’ll have 247 games total

To me, rewarding a club employee with contract extensions, while the very real and likely possibility of falling short loomed, given our trajection, is proof enough that for a while now our club hasn’t been any more different than the ‘plastic franchises,’ we like to air superiority over.

In my opinion, harking back to long dead club ethos like ‘we exist to win premierships,’ makes me squirm and is like a loose propagation of confirmation bias that robs from the legacy of a club we no longer are ideologically. The club has lost its balls and I won’t be renewing until it shows that it has found them.

Maybe a bit dramatic, but seeing Melbourne win burnt me, and I didn’t expect it to. All I could think about was how 10 years ago at AO we were both rubbish and we barely beat them to avoid the spoon, they looked dogshit while we turned it around some time after, and they still beat us to a flag. F*****g shameful.

Four blokes who played that day still going round: Boak, Gray, Jonas and Tom McDonald.

The latter being the future premiership player, obviously.

Sorry for the rather immediate do-over, but I just realised that of the seven teams that haven’t made a GF since Hinkley took the reins, we’re the only one to have not taken a spoon.

So, any club that hasn’t been LITERALLY THE WORST IN THE COMP over this timeframe has been able to bob up for a decider.

Except us.

And 2 of them have both been to the bottom and to the big dance!

What an era of abject nothingness.

I have found another one. We became the first club to have two PF losses after winning the QF:

(PAFC) QF.w - PF.l.PNG

And we did it in consecutive seasons!

---

Since 2000, QF winners have won 75% of all PF (33-11). Although, one must say, the trend seems to have changed since 2015.

In the past 7 seasons, a QF winner has lost the PF 8 times (57.1%).
