I will add something about the CEO which is important to the conversation and negativity antipathy towards Port

Q. What kind of passionate Port person accepts five years of failure?

Q. What kind of passionate Port person trashes a club tradition on the whim of an incompetent head coach?

Q. What kind of passionate Port person allows another club to tell us when we can and can't wear our guernsey?

Q. What kind of passionate Port person refuses to rectify mistakes that can set the club back another decade?

Keith hasn't corrected the largest mistake under his watch. A mistake that supporters are begging to be fixed. Instead of doing what the very fabric of the club demands he do, he tells us that we need to accept the status quo.

Moving to Adelaide Oval was like being handed the goose that laid the golden egg. Massive crowds, shiny new stadium and optimism, NTUA. Since then they have made poor decision after poor decision, Kenny Deckchair, not forcing Ryder and Monfries to take a deal, missed major sponsor. Hinkley's contract extension, extending Voss, not retaining Wingard, co-captains.

The only 5 coaches who have been in the seat longer than Hinkley are Clarkson, Hardwick, Longmire, Scott and Buckley - 4 premiership coaches and 1 who made the GF last year and is top 4 again this year.

But old mate has got us to the lofty heights of 10th in 3 of the last 4 years, so there's that.

Well that's one list we aren't 9th or 10th. Club probably proud of not falling into that category again.

The climate change droughts.

The climate change droughts.

Drought 1: Had to transition from the SANFL to the AFL by building a list from scratch. In light of the subsequent zonal concessions afforded Brisbane and West Coast, and the second-year concessions afforded Adelaide, they were the worst entry concessions presented to any expansion side.

Drought 2: Had to overcome years of chronic underfunding as a result of a financial position that was leading to the possibility, albeit remote, that the club would be stripped of its license, as well as the psychological damage inflicted by a record Grand Final defeat.

Drought 3: Chad Wingard likes video games?

One can look the Hinkley Era from any perspective. The conclusion is always the same. It is an era of "positive mediocrity": almost never bad; a few times good; most time average.

Out of curiosity, attached is our seasons since 2013 divided by thirds (games 1-7, 8-15, 16-22).

The Lego movie had just come out and was doing big numbers. Shake it off was being played constantly. Tony Abbott was prime minister. And Port Adelaide were exciting. What a time to be alive

I didn't say we weren't bad. We have been mostly "meh," with more good games than bad ones in-between - even though there could be more "really bad" than "really good."

Still, I am talking about the overall result.

This isn't the time to talk about climate change. Our thoughts and prayers are with those unfortunate clubs.

Please everyone keep an eye on how many talls we have in the side in round 1, and compare to round 3.

My bet is 8 in round 1, with Marshall and Georgiades dropped for Sutcliffe & McKenzie by Rnd 3.

28% career win rate against top 8 teams is damning enough, but can someone link that recent article which had our win/loss record against the top 4?

Again this year we look miles off the top teams.

I have made some research on our record under Hinkley. I have broken down the seasons in parts, patches of 3 and 6 games. I went just to 18 because this season only has 17 minor-round matches. We usually start strong. The issue is later on. From match #7 to match #18, we have played roughly 50% football since 2013.

3 games
1-3: 18-6 (75%)
4-6: 15-9 (62.5%)
7-9: 11-13 (45.8%)
10-12: 14-10 (58.3%)
13-15: 11-10 (52.4%)
16-18: 11-10 (52.4%)

6 games

1-6: 33-15 (68.75%)
7-12: 25-23 (52.1%)
13-18: 22-20 (52.4%)

I don't have the record for our last 4 games of the season. I believe RussellEbertHandball has it, though.

14-14 (50%), as expected...

---
P.S.: From #7 to #22, our record under Hinkley is 61-57 (51.7%).
For the first 6 games, as it is shown above, our record is 33-15 (68.75%).
The difference is mindblowing.

2. Leon Cameron 171 games
3. Brett Ratten 157 games
4. Chris Fagan 99 games
5. Simon Goodwin 99 games

Most games coached without even making a grand final (all time VFL/afl history)

3. Brad Scott 211 games
4. Ken Hinkley 189 games

Repeating myself from the other thread, but for emphasis,

Unlikely as it may be as a combo, if Melbourne and Brisbane play off in this year’s decider, that’ll mean two-thirds of the league will have played off in the GF since Hinkley took the reins.

Bill Stephen and Terry Wallace coached at 2 clubs as well. Stephen coached Fitzroy over a few stints with Essendon in the middle, but managed 212 games coached for Fitzroy.

If we don't make the GF this year and Ken Hinkley gets to 213 games half way through next season, he'll have coached the most games ever at one club without making a grand final.
