Hewitt was the 2nd seed which says something about the quality of the tournament.

I still think he'll struggle to make another Grand Slam quarter final.

*waits for people to claim he will be back in the top 5 this year*

nothing tournament, remember Wayne Arthurs won a tournament of silmilar quality a couple of years ago;)

Let's remember that his ranking means that at Grand Slams he is not seeded to make the 4th round. He needs all the points he can get from these lesser tournaments, otherwise running into Federer or Nadal (or another high seed) in just the 3rd round is a possibility.

Looked good in today's final. He really tried to hit the ball deep with extra top spin. I don't think I've even seen him play that sort of game.

I think things might start to settle down for Lleyton. His on-road marriage/family shouldn't affect him so much, and the bad publicity has past him. It looks like with solid continued matches he'll be on the rise again. :thumbsu:

No he won't, he simply doesn't have the game to match it with the top players anymore, will be surprised if he gets past the Quaterfinal stage in any Grand Slam from now on.

If his olds continue to travel the world to keep within view of their pot of gold, the bad publicity will continue. I know if it were me, I'd say, "Mum, Dad, how bout you sit the next few out and I'll see you in June at Wimbledon? And here's a million bucks, go on a cruise or something."

Well excuse me for being optimistic. ..

Hewitt looked very good in the final and generally seemed a lot happier than he has in the past 18 months. While everyone agree he will never get back to number 1 (Roger is just too good) I wouldn't put it past him to be in the top 3-4 players again. The guy just has that never say die attitude that so many on the tennis circuit lack.

Anyone have WAYNE ARTHURS head to head record against SAFIN ??
2-2

2004 Monte Carlo AMS Monaco, Clay, R16 Safin 6-4 6-2

2002 Lyon France, Carpet, R16 Safin 6-3 4-6 7-6(10)

1999 AUS v RUS SF Brisbane, Australia, Grass, RR Arthurs 6-3 6-2

1998 Kitzbuehel Austria, Clay, R32 Arthurs 7-6(6) 6-4

Find another excuse to hate on him.

Since when do I hate him. He just aint as good as what he was and will never be as good as he was before the Federer era as he doesn't have the shots to do it. Playing from the baseline will not win majors for Hewitt.

Absolutely no chance. Based on what exactly do you think he has the ability to be top 10, top 5, let alone the best in the world except for Federer and Nadal?

The fact that there are only 2 players who seem to dominate in world tennis, Federer everywhere and Nadal on Clay.

Anywhere outside of those 2 anyone can beat anyone on their day. Ljubicic cant fire a shot when it comes to the grand slams (only shows something when indoors) and Blake (even though I am a huge fan) is in the top 5 for christ sake.

After the first 2 the players I don't see a player in the top 20 who could not make the top 5 with a bit of consistency.

correct.

If Ley Ley can stay fit for the entire year, he's a real chance to move up in the rankings as he's not defending a lot of points, particularly in the 2nd half of the year...

As an aside, expect Nadal to come back to the pack a bit fairly soon. He's not playing anywhere near the level he was at this time last year, has a few niggling injuries & is about to defend a *****load of points in the next few months over the clay court season. Pretty soon there will be an even bigger gap between Federer and the everyone else.
