thats if it escapes his mouth
jeff fehring from st.kilda at moorabbin back in 80'. his kick from the centre circle went through the goals. i was ther as a little tacker watching my uncle play, got to be the biggest kick ever as a once off.
hurn from wce would get my vote today over pebbles.

It never went through the goals, it bounced first then went through. But yes I suppose it did go through, eventually.

Ben Graham

Nice kick from Ben Graham but if anyone remembers Gary Malarkey at FB for Geelong he used to kick almost every kick out either to or past the centre circle or out to the wing. He was a monster kick. Those big flat torps like Huddo used to kick when having shots at goal.

Clint Bizzel for a one off kick. Late in the game against Melbourne he had a flying shot from the wing/half forward on a Friday night, it hit the top of the post and Geelong lost.

And Jeff Fehrings of course. Ablett was pretty handy on the opposite foot from a distance.

Hmmmm, all either Geelong or Geelong at one time or another.

How was Malcolm Blight's kick 80m? He kicked it from about 52 and it just clears the fence.

Not exactly an 80 metre goal. The angle and camera man make it seem a lot further than it is. He appears to be about 10 metres outside the 50m line when he kicks it. It was a massive kick, that easily cleared the fence, so maybe an 80 metre kick, but only about 60-65 metre goal tops.

I'm with the other poster who suggested Bernie Quinlan. The orginal Superboot.

I can remember him regularly winning the old World of Sport contests for biggest kick. One of those kicks went 85 yards (78-80 metres). Amazing.

Every season the legend gets bigger.....

Realistically it looked about 65m and you would hardly raise an eyebrow if done in todays game.

It's linked to CPI. Government forecasts warn that it could be out to as much as 95m by the time West Sydney joins the comp.

Can't find the video of it but Graham kicked out to Mansfield on the wing at some point in a game at the G (v Dogs possibly) and from memory cleared the logo. Mansfield misjudged it and it bounced, so total distance would be 90 plus at a guess, 85 on the fly.

Sav Rocca's the longest kick I've seen. Made other long kickers look like they were kicking cabbages by comparison. Fletcher's good too, but Sav's kicking is just frighteningly powerful.

Talking to fellow boys at the temple (the bar at the footy club) the vote was for Bernie Quinlan at Vfl park while playing for Fitroy bagged a goal on the wrong side of the centre circle it was one fellow monk said it was "HUGE":thumbsu:

Was that against the Bulldogs??? i think i remember seing it on one of those footy dvd's the decade that delivered or the electrifying 80's.

There are a few players who can produce massive kicks like newmans has a let a couple of torps co at subi thats last couple fo years, Fletcher, roacas ben graham are a few that routinley kick long

The Clint Bizzell kick was the first game we ever played at Docklands, against North in round 4 or 5 2000. He had a ping from the centre of the ground, and it went into the crowd, alas about a meter wide right. Had he kicked it the game would have been a draw.

I saw Ben Graham do an ever bigger kick than the one on the video. It was at the Western Oval against Footscray one year. Not only did it go around the same distance as the one against Port, but it went easy 20 meters higher. It was one of those ones where the ball went so high above the grandstand you lost it in the glare. I'm pretty sure he also let go with a near 90 meter torpedo in his 200th game when the crowd was egging him on to have a crack at goal from well inside the centre square at Geelong. Alas he missed, but fortunately we had the game well in hand.

When I was in Canberra back in the 60's I saw Tom 'Turkey' Carrol kick a torp goal from the wing at an oval in Canberra - it was a huge kick and the biggest that I can recall. I think TTC was playing for Ganmain at that stage after a short career at Carlton in the early 60's. When I was looking through the Carlton players I came across the name of Leo Brereton - he was a wiry rover with a huge kick for a relatively small player who ended up playing for Manuka in the Canberra league at around the same time (along side a player by the name of Keith Bromage who was the youngest player at that time to have played for Collingwood - Bromage mainly used a drop kick when kicking for goal - very accurate).

Any discussion on this HAS to include the ghost - Jim Jess.

When he took a mark on the back line the Tiger fans used to yell out to him to have a shot.

I can also remember Paul Van Der Haar kicking some massive torps. One in particular from the centre square at the G when the bombers came from 4 goals down to roll us (when we were good!!)

Others not mentioned yet…

Tuckey (snr) - didn’t mind a torp
Ross Glendinning
Dennis Carroll

Quinlan is probably the best kick I have seen – such an easy action. Didn’t look like he had to put any effort into it.

From Hawthorn - Stuart Dew, Luke Hodge and Lance Franklin can all routinely kick the ball 50+ metres. From memory, Franklin took his last shot against Adelaide in the Elimination Final from outside the 50 metre arc and it comfortably cleared the goal line.
