That's so ridiculous K_D
No one wears a leather jacket whilst water-skiing any more.
Carlton have more than one hole in their list. IMO Carlton have 3 holes in their side.
We lack an A grade centerman to go with Murphy, Judd and Robinson.
We lack one tall, strong forward with good hands, good body on body work and ability to kick goals.
We lack a Ruckman/Tall forward. A guy who can go into the ruck do a good job there and go forward and kick goals.
Talia was the only quality tall from this draft and at this stage I don't see him matching any of the criteria mentioned above.
How can you say with such certainty that there isn't room for another good midfielder?Don't worry about the spin. I'd swap Lucas for Talia in a heartbeat too. No room for Lucas in our team, we have lots of his type, plenty for Talia though. Who do we need more and why did we try to trade for Talia last year. There's alot of good players on You Tube in the top 20 or so.
How can you say with such certainty that there isn't room for another good midfielder?
It looks like Scotland and Mclean have one season left before they leave Carlton. We've already committed to drafting Buckley. Ellard tries hard, but won't make it. I'd be all for getting this O'Meara or another 17 year old gun, but I don't want to throw up the names of players in trades. Others have claimed that we've spoken to two of the Suns' Victorian born midfielders. Another inside midfielder who is as hard as Robinson would be the perfect fit for Carlton.
how many midfielders do we need
What makes you think Ellard won't make?
He's been fantastic this season in a top side - and his aggression at the contest and abillity to hit the scoreboard when it matters, has been great.
I think he will make it![]()
It would be, but all i'm saying is that the club would not be losing sleep over picking Lucas over Talia, not even given our current struggles in KPP depth.
???
Suppose you'd trade Kreuzer for Leigh Brown then.
The biggest hole in our side is our KPF depth and quality. Midfield could use some more class but that'll come in time with the development of Collins, Buckley and...LUCAS!
What inspires you with such faith to make that comment, despite the fact that Lucas dons a navy blue jumper.
Edit: i don't doubt the potential of Lucas, and think he will eventually come right. However, the one has been in the 2's and struggling for the year, whilst the other has just played a blinder at CHB. Our key woes further exacerbate this!
If Lucas wasn't a high draft pick, there would probably be calls to delist him. That is a very ambitious comment to make, especially as it is seemingly on blind faith, without any evidence ot back it up.

It has nothing to do with the fact that one represents the Carlton Football Club.
Young players aren't recruited solely with the purpose of adding to a team straight away. They aren't recruited for 1 season, they are recruited for what will hopefully be 10+ years of service.
Lucas had a very encouraging first season and started his 2nd in the seniors. He has suffered a number of significant injuries along the way which have hindered his performance and development to this point in his career.
One has been in the 2s of a team that has been performing well and has been in the top 4 for most if not all of the season.
The other is getting a game in a hopeless side that has been playing an enormous amount of kids with an eye on the future.
Just as you are certain that if Talia was at Carlton he'd be getting a game due to "our key woes", so too am I sure that Lucas would've seen significant senior action if he was on Adelaide's list.
Mine is a very ambitious comment to make, yet yours that he'd be on the chopping block if he wasn't a high draft pick is a reasonable one?
Give me a break.
Only a fool would contemplate delisting Lucas. And that's putting it lightly.
I think you missed the point. I'm not suggesting we delist Lucas. That would be just ridiculous. However, usually players who has a full year in the VFL after stints in the team the previous year have question marks about their position in the squad. This counts for McLean, Davies, Joseph even Bower.
Talia 'playing' isn't an indication that he will be good. The fact is, that a 20 year old CHB is playing well. Lucas has room for improvement, but not nearly as much as a KPP. The fact that Lucas has had a number of injuries over his short career suggests that Talia is probably more of a chance to be a 10 yr player than Lucas.
I didn't miss the point at all.
Davies is the only one of the 4 players you named that supports your argument considering he too is a 2nd year player.
Yet when it comes to footballing ability it seems that Lucas is considerably better than Davies.
Davies struggles with disposal and his spot on the list has been queried by some as a result.
There are no questions about Lucas' position in the squad, aside from possible interest from GWS. Very talented youngster and has been rated as such for a number of years.
An injury riddled first 2 years of AFL football as a teenager does not change that.
As I said, only an idiot would consider him a chance of being delisted. Not going to happen. And yes, I am aware that you were not advocating for that to happen, but the point was raised.
You are right that Talia is playing well, and good on him. Best of luck to the kid. But because he's played reasonably well in his first 2 games would have no bearing on Carlton's opinion on him vs Lucas.
Besides for a tired and largely unproven myth, what proof do you have to support your claim that Lucas can't improve as much as Talia?
None, I'd suggest - because it is a fallacy.
KPP's traditionally take longer to progress than smaller players as they get used to their bodies at a slower rate, but that in no way means they improve any more or less than midfielders.
Talia also suffered a number of injuries last season so your point about Talia being more of a chance of being a long term prospect than Lucas is moot and wrong.
I never suggested that Talia will be a better player than Lucas. I think Lucas has shown enough to suggest he will be a very good wingman in the 'Kade Simpson variety'. I am just trying to work out why you are so adamant that the club wouldn't trade one for the other, or why the club wouldn't be losing sleep over the non-selection of Talia.
In season 2011, Lucas has played a total of just 11 games for Carlton and the Bullants.I think you missed the point. I'm not suggesting we delist Lucas. That would be just ridiculous. However, usually players who has a full year in the VFL after stints in the team the previous year have question marks about their position in the squad. This counts for McLean, Davies, Joseph even Bower.

Talia isn't a Hurley, Davis or Henderson.Lucas has room for improvement, but not nearly as much as a KPP. The fact that Lucas has had a number of injuries over his short career suggests that Talia is probably more of a chance to be a 10 yr player than Lucas
