The Luke Jackson trade.

I'm not going to do the silly bag the kid game some Demon supporters do. He's a serious talent, and I would have love to have kept him. The big question is whether he is worth what Freo paid, and will continue to pay, and are they using him correctly.

The second part of the question is still in the air. Like us with Grundy, they seem a bit a sea not knowing where his best position is, and he was brought in not on need basis, but rather than on availability. I'm sure they will work it out, but it may take some time, and may push a bloody good ruck in Darcy to another club.

On the first bit, Freo have given up some serious coin and draft picks for him. We can't prove a negative, and maybe those picks would have been wasted, and the coin going on players that would never make it, but still...

But it is what it is, and I wish him all the best. He is, after all, one of our premiership players, and the man in the middle during bang bang bang, but I can't help think that Freo will spend the next 2 years adjusting the team to suit him, rather than the other way around.

And Nic Nat had more than 20 touches 6 times in his whole career. Jackson's already done that 8 times.
At the same age Naitanui averaged more goals per match while also averaging 50% more hitouts than Jackson. A better comparison might be someone like Blicavs who gets around the ground more and gets involved in plenty of uncontested plays while not dominating ruck contests.

I still think Freo are using him so much better than Melbourne were. He’s looked like a completely competent forward when he’s played there for us but that wasn’t the same case when he played with Melbourne.

Draft picks are a bit whatever for us imo. We’re the youngest most inexperienced team after hawthorn and we’ve bought in plenty of first round talent in the past few years. The difference will end up being Jefferson, because Jackson was a pick 3, so the pick 4 balances out anyway. The second round pick might come out to 30 with all the academy bids so who knows.

At the moment seems to be a win win, but if we even had a half decent season then I’d say freo come out on top.

Jackson is a great talent and is going to be a star and I was sorry he left MFC, so it's good that we're going to receive fair value in the trade due to Freo's slide this year.

They average extremely close to the same goals, so much so if Jackson kicks 2 this week he’ll go past him.

Nic Nat fell off a cliff for goals after that in his career, probably because Cox retired.

Interesting that NN got AA in 2012. I wonder if Jakovich will be pushing Jackson’s case this year.

The goal comparison was more to show that at the same age they were playing the same roles but Nic was a much more dominant ruck than Jackson was (or ever will be). Nic monstered other rucks every week and Jackson will be lucky to do that more than a couple of times a year due to his size going forward.

If the AA team pick 2 rucks Jackson would be about 5th in line for the nod. No one would have Jackson in the ruck over Gawn, English, Witts, Darcy etc.

If they want a specialist ruck / fwd then yeah, he’s in with a shot but it’s not a position that teams put much investment into other than Fremantle.

I think I would be cautious with any suggestion we are using him better. Is he playing better? Absolutely but that can be as much due to expected growth and another preseason. Clearly, given the price they demanded (and we paid), both clubs thought this would be a chance of happening sooner rather than later

You were spot on Walshy.

Picks 4 + 13 + 23 + $900k a year for a second ruck.

Only Freo.

We also got picks 40 and 67 back LoL.

I'm sure getting o Reilly from my mob in late 99 worked out well lol

Another no show from Luke Jackson when the team needed him to stand up the most
Another no show from your mob.... Again lol

Really? That's nice. Now tell me how many grand finals and Premierships Tim Kelly has got under west coast eagles. LoL.

Don't get me wrong... I'm slightly disappointed the dockers are probably looking at bottom 4 or 6.

At least dockers got some talented kids coming through. The main challenge is to keep them long term.

As for west coast..... When will they next play finals? 2026?

A bit light on for Grand Finals although the last time he played in a semi final at the MCG he went 30 and 3, which would’ve been pretty handy for you last year.

I don’t think our Grand Final numbers would’ve increased somehow if we had’ve picked Sharp, Robertson and O’Driscoll with what we gave up for Kelly who were all around the mark seeing how they’re turning out.

Would be surprised if the Eagles played finals again before the decade is out tbh, they are basically building up from Ground Zero and still will be bottom 4 once Tassie enters the draft.

Well that is nice.

I think long term view, sharp, Robertson and O'Driscoll would be handy on your list now.

I don't know if Tim Kelly would be the difference maker in last year's semi final.

I will say this though. I will savour that Elim final vs the dogs last season.

Only a 37 year old David Mundy and 31 year old Michael Walters were left from freos last finals win under Ross Lyon in 2015.

19 players in that side played in their 1st ever finals win. 7 of them were aged 21 or under.

Both of them played under the dockers last finals win before Ross Lyon, the 2010 Elim final vs the hawks under Mark Harvey.

Well I still laugh about how the Jesse Hogan trade back in 2018 was gonna send the dockers back 5 or 10 years back.

Might as well say the Blake Acres trade set back 10 years as well. LoL.

Speaking of Blake Acres, I got no animosity towards him. Only positive about the Blake Acres trade was it opened up a spot for guys like Liam Henry, Matthew Johnson or Neil Erasmus.

LOL, who made this absurd claim?

Or are you just making stuff up?
It's bigfooty, so who cares .

Again.... I remember the Garbage from anti Fremantle Dockers trolls on her talking about the Jesse Hogan trade.

They were saying it was gonna set back the Dockers 5 or 10 years back.

Jesse Hogan trade didn't work out well in the end. It did not prevent the dockers making finals and winning a final In 2022

So you just made s**t up to make your argument look better and more compelling.

I like it

Not sure about 10 years but if you could put Ben King into our side right now I think we'd be a good couple yeas ahead of where we are now

Not sure it was the exact same role but comparing the two 4th seasons they are very similar besides ruck taps & I think Jacksons goals are worth more considering the scoring differences between the decades. It would be interesting to get a stat on the amount of ruck contests they both attended but no doubt NN won more.

Jacksons also on less games atm so by the end of the season he might have closed the ruck tap margin to just over 100.

That's weird, I swear in another thread you outright laughed at the possibility of Freo finishing bottom 4 without their first pick
I did.

But again... I think Freos list is half decent compared to your team's playing list.

Let's see if the dockers finish bottom 4 in 2024-7.

Slim chance of the dockers being like North Melbourne of 2020-23 where they have won only 11 games since round 1 of 2020.

Still.... I ask. When does eagles men's side next make finals? 2027?

I got banned from posting on that eagles time to rebuild thread for telling the truth lol
