Re: I hate to say it.....

At least now he knows why some Geelong fans have been complaining about their form. Idiot (Harley I mean not you).

no wonder the players don't read bigfooty, what a f__ken ridiculous comment. Harley may not be the best player on our list but he is a true leader. Crawl back in your hole.:thumbsd:

I wasn't having dig at him as a player. It was directed at the arrogant manner in which he whinged about supporters daring to point out the obvious in that they're not playing as well as their win-loss record suggests, that is all. I just needed to vent.

Scarlett's comments post match

ON the way home from tonights game the comment that stood out against all others was along the lines of "if we don't continue to work hard for each other we know we are a very ordinary team".

Couldn't have said it better.

Hopefully this is the shake up that they need.

It wasn't just the loss...

It was the way we went about the game when we were down. We showed nothing, no heart, no passion, NOTHING. It looked like 2006 all over again. This isn't just about losing, if we came back and lost by 30 points I wouldn't be so pissed off and worried about the team but we just sat on our hands when the pressure was on, stuck in first gear all game. The only time we looked good was the first 3 minutes of the 3rd quarter and when Collingwood got a couple back we waved the white flag. Premiership calibre teams almost never lose by this much and play with no emotion (the only premership team I can remember losing by this much is Carlton in 1995). Something went very, very wrong today whether it was preperation, injuries or mentality... it needs to be fixed before we relive 2006.

Re: I hate to say it.....

Harley may not be the best player on our list but he is a true leader.

A guy can talk up the world but the only way a captain can inspire a team is to dominate their position on the ground. This true leader crap is shielding your brain from accepting the truth..

Re: The Loss we had to have??

hopefully it will kick us out of cruising mode..

in the grand scheme of things though i'm sure their focus is on setting themselves up for the tail end of the season and a loss now is pretty insignificant (unless it's the start of a downward spiral )

Re: Is this what we have needed ?????

Wow. Sitting amongst the a lot of Pie supporters was tough going as the night went on. Never really experienced how rabid and feral opposition supporters get when they knock off the premier. It's something I don't look forward to again.

What was really most galling was that the boys couldn't even rally and win the last quarter. Collingwood took their foot off the pedal a little and there was the opportunity to really work towards something. Unfortunately they looked disinterested and forlorn.

The pressure of Collingwood was fantastic all night. We barely got any room except for the first 5 mins of the third. As thegerman said, a lot of it had to do with too many bystanders looking for the easy ball. Not enough teamwork in blocking and shepherding. The perceived pressure was obviously the main reason for our sloppy disposal and fumbles. We can expect other teams to do what Collingwood did tonight. Other players though(Mackie and Kelly in particular) just didn't get to the tempo of the game. Time and again they were too slow in their disposal when they had more than enough time.

As for whether this loss will be good for us is yet to be seen. We'll know in the following few weeks. I think it may be. When we lost I wanted it to be big so I got when I wanted. I hope it reminds the guys the kind of work ethic they need to put in each week to win games. Cruising like they were isn't going to cut it against top teams.

Lastly, I felt sorry for Trent West if you were listening to MMM. I lost count the amount of times Brian Taylor and James Brayshaw called West when it was Harry Taylor. That horrible section in the 2nd quarter was Taylor making one bad decision after another not West.

If you believe in Karma

If you believe in Karma you can put the Pies win down to your fellow Geelong poster...Junior_29...go have a look at the d**kheads posts on our board...black card (ban for life) the little w***er...it is the honorable thing to do.

Besides the above mentioned, thanks for the Geelong posters congrats on the Pies board.

Great game to watch from our point of view, not so from yours but despite extremely early claims "we're certs for the cup" I thing your boys will bounce back pretty quickly.

Cheers.

Re: The Loss we had to have??

Tonight was a embarrasment, I realise its only 1 lost, but by that margin was deplorable. For the past few weeks we have been playiong ordinary football against sides that are struggling. Here is a list of players in which I thinks needs to be targeted:
Mooney is shot, the amount of drop marks he did tonight was dismall, I feel he has not got the presents he has had during the past 2 seasons.
Bartel: Cant fire, he kicking effeciancy was way off the mark.
Blake: Did we give him a sympathy vote by keeping him; he is no good. Cant run. Cant kick. 2nd rate ruckman.
Taylor: Has been playing some good footy at times, BUT his attack at the footy and pulling out of contests made me wince.
Stokes: He got the ball but didn't do anything.
Hawkins: We need a power forward to step up in big games, but he failed to produce when it counted. Handballing out of bands.....dumb...
Some of the players are living off last year.

This lost having been brewing for quite some time, I am a realist and a passionate supporter. We won it last year, but the way we have been playing over the past month will not win the Geelong Football Club another flag. I am not saying we dont have the talent Im just saying some players have to pull their fingers out of their arses and have a go.
WE HAVE THEN TALENT TO DO SOMETHING SPECIAL.....BUT UNTIL THE BLOKES HAVE A GO AND NOT WAIT TILL HALF TIME.......the start of the year will only be a memory.
Bloody hell....yes it was a big margin a fair suck of the sav, Hawkins is 19 yo, Stokes had a bad night out of how many? Bartel looks like he has been playing injured as has Stevie J, Taylor is a FIRST YEAR PLAYER!.
You people have been listening to the media too much, they ARE beatable, they are NOT a level above everyone else. Tonight was a reality check more for the supporters of this club than anyone.

Get set for a few more dissapointments, they are still a young team (particularly the forward line) and their confidence is going to be shot for a few weeks.

Re: It wasn't just the loss...

the difference between then and now is that now we know what we are capable of. Our best is more than good enough. The thing we learn from tonight is that it wont just happen, we need to get out of that comfort zone we've been in for the last month and play footy like we know we can.

It really isnt time to panic. We are 8-1. A better position than last year. The response next week is what I'm looking forward to

Ah how correct you are... Why not just have the guy sitting on the bench in the coaching staff if he's such a "great leader". His use ON the ground has been incredibly limited for much longer than people are willing to realise.

If he gives a dam about the side he'll retire and let Taylor take his role in '09. Otherwise he's slowing the teams progression.

Re: Ouch!!

was a premiership not enough for you...does a round 10 win more?????

please shut up

:) Yep, there's that knee-jerk reaction I expected.

Clearly you misunderstood what I was driving at Maximus.

Yes, I was happy with the premiership - what an odd thing to ask me.

My point is - we'll know how Geelong are travelling better with the response next week after this showing.

Pies were good, Geelong were bad.

I expect that to be the end of the penny section but we'll know more next week with the reponse to this loss.

Re: How Embarrasing

The half on half off wins were never going to last, a loss was coming when a team maintained intensity for the whole match and Collingwood is exactly the team that does that.

Sticking to a game plan is one thing, but there was too many times i was hoping they just kick the thing 20 meters sideways backwards whatever to someone to hold possession and re-set rather than endless under pressure handpassing.

Yep, I know the commentators were going on about how it was admirable that we stuck to our game plan, but that was our weakness tonight - endless strings of handballs were always going to come unstuck when we were being tackled at a rate of 2:1. Collingwood's intensity was outstanding and we would have been better off trying to wear them down playing a Sydney-style game plan at least some of the time rather than trying the usual running game. It just came unglued tonight.

Re: I hate to say it.....

....but Tom Harley has been very ____ing ordinary this season. If he wasn't captain he's be in the magoos.
He was worst on ground tonight (which really is saying something) imo but he has been solid before today.

Re: I hate to say it.....

So if they didn't lose the game would you be saying this?

You see, if we won no one would listen to reason. Passengers stick out like dogs balls when the team is cold. Harley presents as one big ugly set of dogs balls my friend....

2007, the highest amount of contested marks from opposition disposals...Tom Harley.

You guys are an absolute joke, wouldn't expect anything less from you MartyK

Re: I hate to say it.....

Wow, the knives are out and they go for the captain... Interesting...

He hasn't been that bad this year, tonight he was ordinary, but backman always look ordinary in a big loss.... Even more so with no midfield pressure...

Other than GAJ there wasn't a player on the ground that looked up to speed with the game to single out Harley is easy, you couldn't go for Taylor because even a moron can figure it's his first year, you couldn't go for Milburn or Scarlett for obvious reasons so it's Captain Harleys time to hang up the boots?

These forums really are a haven for the uneducated to have an opinion...

I said exactly the same thing to 'the leader of the opposition' at half time. I would have been dirty all weekend if we'd gone down by a point, but after tonights result questions will be asked that otherwise might not have been.

A bitter pill to swallow, but then again so is most good medicine that does you good.
