Good get for Bristol City, they land a classy chap who has as good a record managing in the Championship as anyone else.

Absolutely stupid decision but it's Milan so you can't really be surprised.
Why? because they stuck with someone getting good results of late.
Since Milan got Kjaer they've looked much better.

Pioli had a rough start but since the new year are 13-7-2 in league and coppa. Played champions Juve 3 times for 1W2D. Beat Roma. Beat Lazio
Football is a results business and they've decided to stick with someone who has started to get them routinely.

Pioli got Lazio into the UCL qualifiers and got sacked a year later for being s**t. He started off well at Inter and that went to s**t quickly before he got sacked. He was meant to help Fiorentina push into Europe again and failed miserably despite some good investment into the side. They are his last 3 jobs before Milan.

He might be getting results now but his last three jobs all show they don't last. Rangnick is genuinely insane but he would have set Milan up for future success for years afterwards.

All those are ‘ifs’ though. If they had Rangnick this could happen. If they stick with Pioli this could happen. It may end in tears and they may sack him down the line but it looks like Maldini and Co have made a decision based off what is happening.

Ranginck's last three jobs:

1) Got a literal village team in Germany known as Hoffenheim from the 3rd division to the Bundesliga in 2 years and had them 1st in the winter break, before finishing 7th. Would have finished higher if their main striker Ibisevic didn't get injured. Their academy is now routinely cited as one of the best in Germany too because of him.

2) Got Schalke of all teams into the UCL semis and won the DFB Pokal playing some of the best football in Europe that year with some truly s**t house players.

3) Got Leipzig promoted into the Bundesliga and got them into the UCL when Hassenhuttl was sacked. Was also director of RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg and brought through players like Mane, Werner, Gulasci, Sabitzer, Forsberg, Kampl, Halaand, Minamino and Szoboszlai.

On top of those, he set up Stuttgart to win the Bundesliga and have one of the best academies in Germany and he set up Hanover as a Bundesliga club who'd make the quarter finals of the Europa League. And he's the guy who made this thing called "gegenpressing". I think one or two German coaches use that now because of him.

Pioli's last three jobs were getting good results with Lazio then sucking and getting sacked, getting good results with Inter then getting sacked after under performing, then underachieving with Fiorentina for two years before getting sacked. History seems to suggest that one of them guarantees short and long term success and that the other gets good results for 5 minutes before being found as mediocre and getting the chop.

But why? Issues with Moratti?

He was fairly scathing against some people at Inter, did the same last year and got some new toys in January. Reckon he is just making sure he has funds.
