Australian authorities are investigating claims that a Chinese espionage ring tried to install an agent for Beijing in a seat in Federal Parliament.

The revelations emerged amid the defection to Australia of a man claiming to be a Chinese spy. Wang Liqiang, who says he was an intelligence operative, claimed the Chinese government used front companies and influence campaigns to infiltrate Hong Kong’s independence movement, organise kidnappings and assaults on democracy activists and interfered in Taiwan’s elections.
A Chinese spy has risked his life to defect to Australia and is now offering a trove of unprecedented inside intelligence on how China conducts its interference operations abroad.

And the harassment of journo John Garnault

And all the alleged involvement with our universities and Chinese students.

Is all this the tip of the iceberg? How far does it go?

Id be more worried about the ones already there. And they dont have to be Chinese either.

Why does China pay Bob Carr $1 million per year? What did he do during his time as Premier that made them feel like he deserved $1 million a year when he had far less power?

Anyone else remember this?

Gladys Liu's association with Chinese figures who were deemed a security risk was the subject of an ASIO investigation even before she entered Parliament or became a Liberal Party candidate.

The ABC understands ASIO Director-General Duncan Lewis advised that then-prime minister Malcolm Turnbull, based on the guest list, should not attend a "meet and greet" organised by Ms Liu in the Victorian electorate of Chisholm for Chinese New Year in February 2018.
