Weekend Wrap and "Liked, Learned, Hated" right here -- How did tipping go?
The point is can he actually coach?
You've got to remember that Dean Bailey took this list to 8 wins in 19 games in 2011, of which one was against a non-expansion side. Neeld has won 5 games since the start of the 2012 season, 1 of which was against a non-expansion side. The list was the same for all intents and purposes last year with the added bonus of Mitch Clark for half the season.
We're talking about a guy who has a lower win/loss record than Peter Rohde and Damien Drum and Matthew Primus. At some point it is fine to recognise the lemon factor. Only one coach since 1987 has a lower win/loss percentage having coached more than 20 games, and that's Buckenara.
The problem is he has totally mismanaged it up to now. There are rumours around other players being shitty. We've had a Cam Schwab special with some of these trades. We've got the hardcore supporters now giving up. It's not just the here and now, it's that this whole idea has been sold to the supporter base five years ago and everyone so royally ****ed it up that they've somehow left us WORSE off, and people just can't deal with it.I think the jury is still out. It is a mammoth task in turning Melbourne around and I think people underestimate that. I'd be keeping him there until the end of the year, yet things would need to improve for him to be considered for 2014.
I think he'll fail though, not necessarily because he can't coach but because he has the worst assistants and the worst senior group of players in the league. He'll be a very good assistant coach, but he has been set up to fail at Melbourne.
I think Melbourne need to just accept that they will be going millions into debt again, attract a proven coach who they will probably have to overpay to get him there, surround him with good, experienced assistants and use them (and the space in the salary cap) to attract some senior players to the club. But at the end of the year, because frankly no one in the Melbourne coaching ranks at the moment is ever going to be more than a caretaker coach and it would be a waste of money that could be used next year.

I wouldn't coach Melbourne if they offered me a million a year.

What's the point of keeping him if it means that there's a player exodus at the end of the season. Melb can't afford to lose Watts, Jamar, & Frawley. The best way to keep those guys is get the new coach in there and hopefully he can convince them its worth sticking around. That the club is going to change. Things will get better. Leave Neeld in and you can pretty much guarantee all those players will go.
Strongly disagree, if they don't act soon they'll lose everything. Sack neeld, sign up Choco Williams. Jobs done. They would probably lose those players anyway, even if Neeld goes tomorrow. There is little hope in the prospective caretaker coaches at Melbourne.
If they have a proven senior coach lined up Neeld should go, but it's going to take a lot of effort to woo one to come over and I don't think they will be able to do it mid season.
Even if Neeld is kept to the end of the season and is then told his contract will not be renewed, the new coach will still have time to convince the disgruntled players to stay. They also save a few bucks to spend on the football department personnel next year.

If they wait until the end of the year the debt will be just as bad and then they risk losing sponsors and members as well. Waiting for the end of the season is the kind of weak attitude that got them into this mess. Even if they just put in a care-taker coach, Neelds sacking will send a message to the players. As for Choco who knows what he'd do. He's only a development coach at Richmond. So he could move on from there very easily. And Choco will come midway through the season?
Not sure that he'll come so easily and Melbourne can't just offer out multi million dollar contracts mid season. There has to be a process as they are cruising for a 1.5 million loss as it is.
What message would it send that hasn't been sent already with the sacking of Bailey dismissing of a number of players? If they wait until the end of the year the debt will be just as bad and then they risk losing sponsors and members as well. Jesus mate, why don't they do nothing then. Sign Neeld up for another 10 years and just go along being a shit club that eventually fades away like FitzroyWhat message would it send that hasn't been sent already with the sacking of Bailey dismissing of a number of players?
I hope the MFC Board and CEO aren't like you...as weak as piss that is.If they wait until the end of the year the debt will be just as bad and then they risk losing sponsors and members as well. I'm not suggesting they should or shouldn't sack Neeld. I just think the justification for doing so because it "sends a message" is flawed. There are a number of much better reasons to justify sacking him.Jesus mate, why don't they do nothing then. They also might consider keeping him to soak up the negativity for the bulk of the year before dismissing him later. That way the enthusiasm and hope injected via a new coach might last to the end of the year.I think the club can get a bit more out of Neeld. They havent exhausted every option with him in charge at the moment. Whether they make him sacrificial and he starts singling out players, at the risk of losing the playing group or whatever.
I think the squad needs to be put through the wringer with Neeld in charge as one last roll of the dice. If no luck, time to move on.
Should hold off on giving him the bullet for the time being IMO.

Surely he must resort to desperation stakes now - Turn into a real hardarse coach and see who on that list is made of what.
The message that things could get even worse, which is a distinct possibility given the prospective persons who would be in line for the caretaker position?
Choco is in a well paid job with little stress and nice hours. To think he'll drop that for a basket case he has no affiliation to would be surprising. He will need to be wined and dined and i'm not sure mid season is the time for that. Do it properly and don't rush the process.
Seems to me he already went too hard, too early in an effort to do that. Came in swinging and lost the players before he even had a chance to win them over.
Any further public humiliation will just exacerbate the problem imo. He really is a dead man walking.
It is a mammoth task in turning Melbourne around and I think people underestimate that.
Since when?
