Their new album Amputechture leaked onto the internet tonight. First impressions are very very good. I wasn't a big fan of Frances The Mute, so this is a nice relief.

hmmm i dont know about this band..
i mean i like moments of their songs, but i cant get into the whole picture.to many wasted moments for me.
to much ****ery, stupid 5 minute sound effects are not needed..maybe they are,well..**** i dont get it then.

i have heard the guys in the band say all the ambient stuff are 'visual stories' or some ****.i just think they have taken a ****load of drugs. Can anybody actualy listen to fraces the mute the whole way thro,i mean its got its moments..but it all starts to sound the same adter a while.

and i am just not into that guitar playing style at all,its just weird noodeling.there are some cool riffs in there but i am more into melodic, thoughtfull playing..

each to their own tho...
ATI did alot more for me tho.that was angry,to the point ballsy rock:thumbsu:

man that's awesome news! Absolutely love the mars volta... I enjoyed Frances the Mute but Deloused in the Comatorium gets played more regularly in my cd player.
Where can you find the leaked material? Limewire or somewhere else??
Cheers!!

If your into more punk stuff than anything else then it's fair enough that you think that way.

It is all a matter of genres that suit ones taste. Frances the Mute was to me an attempt at modern Progressive Rock, a style/genre that had its day in the 70's with bands like ELP and Yes to name a couple. A short lived style that faded fast with Punk/New Wave rearing it (ugly) head in the late 70's. I prefer Decoder Ring myself. They seem to have a less "forced" feel than The Mars Volta but i will be looking to hear the new one just the same.

A couple of bongs + headphones + a dark room might help ;)

If you do, can you let us know where you found it?
Thanks!

Woo! I was a HUGE fan of De-loused (as in spent about 30 hours on a bus listening to it in a week) but was a bit dissapointed with Frances. I thought the Ralph magazine review was spot on. "Like watching a porno, some moments of magic but you just want to skip through all the plot." 5 minutes of birds singing is not needed, boring crap.
Still a good CD but something that you need to listen to with your finger on the fast forward button.

The new one is fantastic. Far more focused than Frances The Mute, less of the extraneous ambient noise and more of a jazz influence, with some more down-tempo/non-rock stuff, definitely a step forward.

Is it only on bit torrent?

I'll give you a crash course on how to steal music the non-bittorent way.

Type "name of band or album" + rapidshare into google and if you're lucky some on the results will include a download link somewhere. (usually in an mp3 blog or a message board)

You could traverse through various messageboards for music or bands, sometimes individuals will put up the odd link.

my favourite mp3 blog is indie surfer blog, they usually give plenty of links to open directories.

If you're too lazy to do all that :p

type this into google

"mars volta remidalver rapidshare"

click on the first link that google shows and traverse down the page till you find the mars volta entry.

I'm haven't tried it yet to see if the rapidshare link is accurate but give it a try (was looking for other music and saw it)

What do I do when a password is required and none seems available?

just listened to the new album today thanks to bitTorrent.... if you liked deloused in the comatorium than you'll love this album too. It is similar to Frances the Mute but it seems more driven/focused this time around. Definitely a great album. Plus it's released on my birthday (Aug 22) so that's gotta be a good sign, natch!!

Listened to the new one a few times now and still not sure what I think about it It's missing the things that made Frances poor such as the long bird solo's but I think it's also missing some of the moments of rock that made the previous two so good.
I also think they've gone too heavy on the spanish stuff, it's all well and good but it just grates me a bit. I don't think it's because I can't understand it (I love Rammstein) but there's something I don't like about it.
Would also be cool if I could understand a single track name.

Think I'll go listen to De loused, this have given me the desire.

mars Volta - legendary

France the Mute was not a dissappointment for me - I refer you to the 30 minute opus entitled ' Cassandra Gemini'

breathtaking

Agreed I loved Frances the Mute. Esp, the Cassandra Gemini.

New album is out now although it leaked quite a while ago......................no thoughts yet because i haven't really given it a go.........it sounds even more 'latin' than the last.

yeah i was gutted to hear their tour had been postponed... finished uni this week and was on a countdown to December 2nd. They didn't actually give a reason in the press release, but they're an eccentric lot the MV, so it could be for any bloody reason... probably something to do with their massive afros..

Accurate as hell. The motifs and themes of TMV are all decent, but they spend a lot of time just adding in pointless 4-5 minute ambient sections. Omar's riffing was so good on Deloused, and he probably peaked at that point (as they all did) but they become so bloated, to being almost unlistenable after LP 3. I didn't mind some of the songs on Octahedron though - think it was a nice change for them.

The core of the band, Cedric and Omar, peaked with their last few ATDI LP's. The songs were ambitious, but perfectly executed. In reality they've been living off their reputation for close to 20 years, and haven't captured anything interesting since DITC.

Deloused is one of my favourite albums ever. Second album was pretty good too. Both drummers are amazing.

But live, they just degenerate into this jamming band that is extremely frustrating if you're there to hear the songs.

It's akin to when Billie Joe does his 'I said a heyyyyy ohhh' for 45 minutes at a Green Day gig

You just want to strangle them and say stop wanking, get on with the songs!!!!!
