Think you would lose too much playing Carpenter as a mid - Lyon isn't going to play her there so she'd be a makeshift every time she plays for Australia.

Basically, they either need Kellond-Knight to make a full recovery quickly or have that kind of player replace her.
She might be makeshift but she often looks one of our are best attacking threats and I'm not sure she's that good defensively anyway. Doing so at international level is not without precedent either. Alphonso Davies is almost exclusively a left back for Bayern but plays as a 2nd striker or left winger for Canada (who are playing their best ever football because of it). Same with Oleksandr Zinchenko for Ukraine.

You are right though in terms of what you gain having her further up the park you probably lose from having to have someone else play right back. Its just something I wouldn't mind them exploring.

If we were to do anything makeshift, I'd be trying Fowler as a mid. She has the ball control but seems to go missing in attack. Either that or shift her to Foord's position.

Asia Cup Update: South Korea and China are the surprise finalists for Sunday after the semi-final knockouts on Thursday.

Bloody hell. South Korea had the Asian Cup in the bag 2-0 up in the 2nd half and playing winding down the clock tactics and the game looked like it was going to fizzle out. China looked nowhere near it - really poor balls from set kicks when they had the opportunity and then with about 25 minutes to go a South Korean defender gave away a handball penalty blocking a cross in an innocuous attack. Penalty was nearly saved too, but China had all the momentum from then on. Their coach made changes- Where they were giving the ball away, China started connecting passes - their subs combined for the equalizer. It was then set for extra time, Korea made one last chance but a brilliant point blank save from China's goalie batting the ball away with her left hand in about the 92nd minute was followed up a minute later by the sub for China scoring the winner (the same sub who had given the assist for the previous goal). Finished 3-2. South Korea English coach who had been yelling instructions all game from the sideline just sat slumped on the bench after the final whistle not even consoling his players.

Regarding Matildas, Sam Kerr won the Golden Boot for the Asia Cup with 7 goals (5 of which she scored against Indonesia).

In the Chelsea Vs Manchester City Superleague Cup Final currently being played both Kennedy and Raso are benchwarmers for Manchester City. Don't think Raso has been in amazing form that Bubs says she has been in. I watched the highlights of a game a couple of weeks before the start of the Asian Cup where Raso came on and scored 2 in 6-0 drubbing vs a bottom team in the English Women's League - but the opposition just handed the goals on a plate.

Foord also a benchwarmer for Arsenal the other night (although she did come on at half time in their match). Interesting to see how much game time Foord will get from now on with Arsenal having just recruited Swedish international Stina Blackstenious to team up with Vivian Meidema (Neth) and Tobin Heath (USA) -as well as their UK players Kim Little, Beth Mead and Jordan Nobbs already in their starting line up.

Should correct this - it was the two subs that scored goals 2 & 3 for China, but the player who set up goal 2 was the No 18 Tang who had also converted the penalty. She nutmegged the defender and got the cross in just before the ball went over the line and they had to check it with VAR.

Kerr will also picked up 10K in US dollars for being Golden Boot.

Was watching Lyon's game over lunch today. Carpenter must be thankful to be back with a functioning midfield and more than one option for attack.

Torn ACL for one of the recent Matildas debutants, Holly McNamara. Injury happened in the 2nd half of the Melb City vs Sydney Utd game on Sunday.

Bad news. Hopefully her rehab goes well and we can see her back on the pitch fitter and stronger than ever.

Foord has scored twice in the first half for Arsenal vs Liverpool. Medeima, Blackstenius and Heath on the subs bench for Arsenal, so she's playing as a striker. Catley and Williams also playing.

Matildas squad for the upcoming friendlies against NZ was announced a couple of days ago. Pretty much going with the same old same players as used in previous couple of tournaments.

Since the announcement Alex Chidiac has been called in to replace Kyra Cooney-Cross. Chidiac was probably in better form for Melb Victory in the midfield than her teammate anyway.

Chidiac is a good in. Like the way she wanted to improve her technical game so went to Japan. Not now but she could be part of the midfield solution long term.

Not finishing chances is poor. Raso had the clearest chance but can't control the ball close to her body when she needs to. Simon and Kennedy with pitiful efforts. Didn't like Kerr laughing it off after missing the ball completely when she had an open chance after she did exactly the same thing against Sth Korea.

Good: Gorry, best on field in first half. Fowler. Polkinghorne. Carpenter
Bad: Kerr, Simon.
