90 + 3 Daisy Brown with Australia's 5th. Backpass error but well pounced on by the substitute striker once she got 1vs 1 with the GK.

AUSTRALIA 5 - INDIA 0

FULL TIME
GOALS
3 Halmarick, 1 Brown, 1 Butrus.

There were some other chances created by some good through balls. Trimis had a couple of chances but looked a bit tired to me given she's played 2 x 90min games in the heat of the day and couldn't finish. Temperature was 38C at the start.

Halmarick, Prakash, Bertolissio top 3.

No real issues as the defence wasn't tested. A couple of times Emma Dundas turned the ball over playing out. She is a midfielder when she plays for Newcastle Jets but due to injuries she's being played as a makeshift centre-back. Let's see how that goes against Japan.

Avaani Prakash controlled a high ball at the top of the box 1,2 touches, foot was a bit high but she got the ball clean and the ref allowed it. 3rd touch was a shot into the corner that beat the diving keeper.

45 + 3. Japan level. Run into box on the left side and a cut back and powerful shot across goal levels it.
AUSTRALIA 1 - JAPAN 1

HALF TIME.

Australia only need a draw to Top the group.

A 3rd goal to Japan. Central pass across the pitch by the Matildas was cut off and Japan took one pass through the middle to set up a 1 vs 1. GK Melegh got a hand on the first shot but it was put in 2nd attempt.

Quick reply by the Young Matildas. Cross from Prakash just keeping it in on the end line and Daisy Brown deflected it in from close range.

FULL TIME
AUSTRALIA 2 - JAPAN 5

Big chances at both ends in the final 30 seconds before the final whistle.

Young Matildas finish 2nd in the group behind Japan.

Quarter final game on Sunday at 11pm AEST, likely against North Korea who look like topping their group (unless they lose to South Korea in their final group game.)

Update: Opponent is North Korea who beat South Korea 5-0.

Young Matildas playing their Quarter Final match against reigning Asian Cup champs North Korea.

A couple of line up changes. Looks like an attempt to strengthen the defence, having gone with midfielder Emma Dundas in the past 3 games.

Dundas is replaced by defender Amelia Bennett - probably means Alexia Apostolakis plays central defender. Also Danella Butrus starts ahead of Peta Trimis.

STARTING XI:
Melegh GK
Bennett, Apostolakis, Sullivan, Bertolissio
Prakash, Kruger, McMahon
Butrus,Younis
Halmarick.

Didn't take long. 3rd minute. North Korea score from a deep cross. Player unmarked on the other side of the box had time to control the ball and then shoot to find a narrow gap between defender, GK and right post.
NORTH KOREA 1 - AUSTRALIA 0

Long delay. Stretcher out for Danella Butrus. Could be a head knock. She had one in the A League earlier this season. Down for about 6 min but now she's walked off without the stretcher.
28 min SUB
Butrus OFF: Fuller ON

HALF TIME
NORTH KOREA 1 - AUSTRALIA 0

Big chance on 53 min for Australia. Pressed them into a backpass that didn't reach the keeper and Fuller got between the defender and the GK to shoot but it was blocked by the GK. They both ended up on the ground and Younis followed up and was blocked by another defender.

Otherwise Australia just defending in their own half and trying their best to keep North Korea from scoring again.

68 min SUBS
ON Brown, Dundas
OFF Halmarick, Kruger

Looks like Dundas is going to midfield for the first time in the tournament.

73 min. Goal. Short corner taken back to the end line inside the box and the deflected off Sullivan's hip into goal.
NORTH KOREA 2 - AUSTRALIA 0

80 min SUBS
ON Cassar, Dale
OFF Younis, Prakash

88 min
OFF Bennett
ON O'Keefe

Australia almost getting a goal from a low cross near the end line with the North Korea defender deflecting it cm's wide of the near post.

GOAL 89min
GK Melegh well up the ground 10m short of the centre tried to launch a long kick forward but only into a North Korea player and the spills were chased down as the ball ended up behind the keeper and there was an empty net to score.
NORTH KOREA 3 - AUSTRALIA 0

FULL TIME 3-0.
Historically, pretty much a standard loss against North Korea.

2-0 Matildas win over Kenya in the 2nd of the 2 match FIFA series games. Goals to Kerr and Wheeler. Kerr's goal was a fairly lame shot that the GK let run through her hands. Quite embarrassing. Wheeler's goal was good.
