Interesting. A month ago, Ross Aloisi was named as a leading candidate to be the inaugural manager of Western Melbourne.

I don't believe he has any experience coaching women's football.

He coached the Lady Reds I think.

The reality is that the Matildas improvement in the past 4-5 years under Stajcic can be measured by their World Team Ranking moving from 10th to 6th. Its not as amazing as people think.
The reality is that your post is a bit shit. I'm surprised that someone who supports Fremantle has such any expectations with a sports team.

https://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking/associations/association=AUS/women/index.html

Australia were ranked 11th when he took over in April 2014. He took the team to 5th in 2016 (03/'15-08/'15) and 4th in 2017 (12/'17-03/'18), and yes, they are currently ranked 6th. Apart from a drop-off in the past 12 months, anyone saying that he has not done a good job or that the team is not well-placed is either Tracey Holmes, an idiot or both. But rankings mean SFA anyway, anyone who follows FIFA Rankings knows that.

The all time average ranking for the Matildas is 11. Click on the time line for 2014 and it has the ranking as 10th (so yeah, quibble if it was 10th or 11th but the chart says we haven't been outside the Top 10 in Women's Football since before 2011 - that's 3 years before Stajcic was appointed coach), and the rise up occurred during the same time frame as three of the top teams from that period, Japan, Sweden and Brazil were transitioning downwards because of the need to regenerate aging squads. We got beaten at home by 36th ranked Chile - how does correlate to being a team ranked 6th.

We haven't won a major tournament under this coach. We didn't win the Asian Cup under this coach, which we did win under Sermanni. We almost missed automatic qualification (via the Asian Cup) to this World Cup but got out of the group on goal difference over Sth Korea (who we drew against) by thrashing Vietnam. Sam Kerr scrambled a goal for a draw against Japan in the 87th minute in the final group game to get us out of the group stage and qualify for the semi-finals of the Asian Cup against minnows Thailand - where again we needed to go to penalties to make the final- and that was only after Alanna Kennedy equalized in stoppage time against a team with 10 players.

I don't have anything of value to add, this just made me lol :tearsofjoy:

Just looking ahead at the World Cup, assuming we win our group, and the top 4 nations do likewise (USA, DEU, FRA, ENG), we play a 3rd placed team in the Round of 16, then either 5-CAN/7-NED/8-JPN in the Quarter Final and then 2-DEU in the Semi Final.

1-USA, 3-FRA and 4-ENG are all in the other half, only two can make the semis and only one can make the final. 1-USA v hosts 3-FRA is a likely Quarter Final.

we will not get out of our group
wasnt it top 6 rankings were ceded so as no run into each other in the early rounds
2019 is the honey pot WC ( not 2018,2017 2016 )
In any high level sports which has a 4 yr cycle it will be geared to tapper to that time ( Stajj had his plan )
played different girls/ and some in different positions
For financial reasons, some players have-been playing up to 70 games a yr , burn out and injuries will occur, Stajj did not like it
THIS Is FFA fault, pay them more and they can cut back on playing schedules
remember these girls had to go on strike to get a better pay deal , whilst Gallop got a pay rise to $1 mill pa

Unlike Graham Arnold, Milicic gets a contract only to the end of the World Cup, though Herald-Sun reports that both sides are open to an extension, depending on how things go.

Announcement is pending Milicic's arrival from Europe today.

One of his first tasks will be to announce the squad for the Cup of Nations, which kicks off next week (28 February in Kogarah, then 3 March in Brisbane and 6 March in Melbourne).

Apparently, Heather Reid was the primary instigator at board level to get rid of Stajcic. For whatever reason, she didn't like him and pushed for the FFA to sack him.

She's subsequently been diagnosed with cancer and has had to take indefinite leave to deal with her health issues.

The twitter handle "@Rae10d" belongs to Raeanne Downer, who coached Canberra United to a premiership a few years ago.

Feminist anti male conspiracy to sack Staj proven, as per my earlier posts about "LyndaTaylor76" Twitter account (which is alleged by industry experts to be either ex FFA Board Member Heather Reid or her mate, FFV Women's Council head Maria Berry).

The Matilda's players have leaked this DM last night.

It's worth opening the link to see the to and fro on the thread, not to mention who Rory Carroll thinks is the real person behind the LyndaTaylor76 twitter handle.

So you reckon they orchestrated all this to replace one male coach with another male coach.

The 'plan', as LyndaTaylor76 Twitter hinted to Tracey Holmes on 4-1-2019 was to get Young Matilda's Coach Ms Rae Dower, to take over Staj.

Once the sh.tstorm hit after Staj got sacked, the FFA had to save face, hence getting Ante Milicic (who is already a paid FFA employee) to take the Matilda's to France in June.

After that, will be a lady coach.

As Dean Rosario succinctly wrote early today:

"Conspiracy theory was: "militant women" had been waiting yrs to get rid of Stajcic & appoint a woman coach. Theory included getting 9 State Feds, PFA, 9 AL clubs to unanimously elect a female sympathiser onto FFA Board, who would then brainwash 5 others to follow blindly?"

There's also stuff that contradicts what Rory Carroll says. He's also had recent conversations with Tracey Holmes on twitter about the people interviewed for her program "The Ticket" on Sunday (see report of transcript below) which are worth reading.

Whoever is lying about the use of this term "lesbian mafia" and how often it was spoken - the players would know who is telling the truth.

I don't understand this person. How is it that they think that anonymously sending that uninvited message is not toxic, but then forwarding that message to other interested parties is toxic?
Interesting that van Egmond and the rest of the support staff are remaining in their jobs when people defending the FFA have been saying that the reason Stajcic was fired was because of what people under him said and/or did, not necessarily what he said/did himself. If that is true, presumably that means that the people reasonable for the actions that created the "toxic environment" are still employed to work with the Matildas

Seems a conflict of interest to me to have father coaching a team where his daughter is playing - even though there's no question that Emily Van Egmond is one of the first picked on talent, it seems unhealthy for the team if/when there are factions between the playing group.

Apparently Ante Milicic previously played in the NSL for Newcastle Jets when Garry Van Egmond was the club coach.
