Arsenal 3-0 up in the 2nd leg away to Lyon. Foord involved in the lead up to 3rd goal.

4-0 Now. Foord just scored after a terrible defensive error. Lyon defender just tripped over in possession after a pass out from the GK and Foord came in and slammed it past the Lyon GK.

4-1 (81 min.) Cross from Carpenter into the box and follow up strike. Still 5-3 to Arsenal on aggregate.

Arsenal into the final vs Barcelona. Foord and Catley played full games for Arsenal and Carpenter for Lyon. Cooney-Cross came on as sub approx 86 min.

Final is Sat May 24 Barcelona vs Arsenal in Lisbon.

There's a edit of Foord's game here. I don't follow the poster on X, and I can't do anything about the soundtrack attached to it, but you can see from the clips that there's times when Foord is going head to head in attacking and defending on Carpenter.

Squad to play Argentina in 2 games in Melbourne. Most of the details are in the graphic.

Carpenter and Gorry taking personal leave, Yallop and Arnold not available through injury (and obviously Fowler and Kerr).

Couple of rookie GK's although Whyman had been the 3rd string keeper for a while and I like Aquino who has been named in a squad once before. They've bypassed recent debutant GK Chloe Lincoln.

Surprising name is seeing Amy Sayer back after her ACL. Gomez and Johnson are the other uncapped players.

Generally like other than the ongoing inclusion of van Egmond, but have resigned myself to the fact that she'll be dropped only when she retires apparently.

Would imagine Catley and Foord will skip the first game as they will have just played the UWCL final the weekend before. Pretty much the same for Sayer; she's had limited minutes ina. few games back from ACL.

Think Football Australia needs to take this approach more where international players are rest from these home friendlies, as much as they want to build and please the fanbase. Fans need to be mature about how often they can realistically expect to see their heroes if they live and play in Europe.

I saw somewhere else Catley (C) Van Egmond (VC). So yeah, interim coach backs Van Egmond.

Arsenal win the UEFA cup 1-0. Catley played the full game central defender. Foord about 90min before being subbed. Cooney-Cross unused sub.
Great tactics by Arsenal. Constantly harrassing Barcelona players on the ball and top goal to finish. Wonder if this will encourage other Barca players to follow Caldentey's lead and move to WSL.

When you see some of subs like the goalscorer Blackstenius, Hurtig and Brugts you realise how much player depth there is in those top European teams. Way above most international teams, certainly way above the Matildas, not withstanding that Catley and Foord participated and have championship medals.

I'm going to the game tonight (friendly against Argentina). Expecting 75% of the crowd to have no clue about who are the players.

It'd be nice if this is Sermanni's last game in charge (I think he also wants it over and done with).

Do you mean you hope it's his second last. You don't think that they're going to replace him before the 2nd game on Monday?

I noticed there was some more friendly games for the Matildas scheduled in Perth against Slovenia and Panama at the end of June and early July.

Same.

Not expecting the Arsenal trip to have a run and am fine with that. More interested to see the emerging talent and how Amy Sayer goes.

Having said that, fully expecting EVE and Yallop to start.

I must admit I forgot there were two friendlies being played in close proximity to each other. Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, there are some friendlies scheduled in a few weeks over in Perth.
