Reckon most players played close to their potential in this tournament which is pretty good considering a fair few (Catley, Foord, Simon, Logarzo) had played little game time because of injuries coming into the tournament.

Problem is there is still some players with limitations. The idea that we've got or had a golden generation is garbage. We've got Kerr and Carpenter in this squad and that's about it. De Vanna was a superstar. Kellond-Knight was named in the tournament team in the world cup before last.

Raso for example has so much energy with her runs down the flanks, but she overhits the ball and runs after it rather than controlling it and is easily picked off and put under pressure by good defenders when she needs to put in a good cross. Gielnik is similar - really honesty gutsy player with endurance few can match, but more often than not lacks finishing. Both could play their roles as part of the team as long as the rest understand and play to their limitations.

Seen Foord's entire career as a Matilda and honestly think she was a better player before she was played as a striker. She was awarded the best young player as a 16yo at the 2011 World Cup as a defender. She's much better playing in a position where she is running at the opposition defence because she has close control and the dribbling skills with the ball.

We still have to find a new set of the defenders especially in relation to central defenders so that Catley and Carpenter can be more attacking. Polkinghorne is 32yo - I guess there's a chance she'll still be around if there's no-one better. Likewise, Kennedy will still be around. They brought in a couple of youngsters into this squad and didn't play them in Nevin and Grant - but they would play the same kind of roles as Carpenter and Catley. Think there's a tall central defender at Adelaide FC that looks the most promising called McNamara. Other than that I can't see anyone that's going to take over from Polkinghorne, Kennedy or even Brock.

The other problem is the midfield. We hardly played a ball through the middle to make a connection with the forwards. It was either go around the edges or do a big switch across field and there was a big empty space in the middle of park whenever we tried to transition. Need a playmaking midfielder in the centre of the pitch to play through.

To some degree that was one of the roles that Kellond-Knight could play - another player that made the squad but was unused because she's missed a year with injury. I suppose she could still be around in a couple of years because she only 30yo - given that we picked Luik at 36yo for this tournament.

The current midfield is pretty much Van Egmond, Yallop and Logarzo.

Someone has to come through for that role. There's a youngster at the Glory with good passing skills called Lowry who might be close to being ready in a couple of years, but will still be inexperienced and probably more of a bench player. There's others like Sayer, Lowe, Holmes and Chidiac who have had a bit of a taste of it at international level. Cooney-Cross looks talented enough to step up, but she's come straight out of the W-League to international football.

We'll drop further behind if we don't put some resources into the W-League because the gap between that standard and international football is massive.

Agree and we have to look at the roles those players play with their clubs. Kerr is never the sole attacker for Chelsea, she's the most dangerous one but she relies on and works well with Kirby and Harder. We don't have anyone as good as those two though Fowler has shown glimpses.

Really noticeable how poor the first touch of a lot of players has been. It's to be expected when they get tired but looking at the quality of ball control and passing from Sweden and it's night and day compared to us.

I thought Van Egmond was pretty underwhelming this tournament. She's good on the long, wide crosses but not the creative stuff in close. Would have preferred they played KK ahead of Yallop or Logarzo, who did even less, even with her coming back from injury.

Cooney-Cross needs to be looking for a European club. What happened with Chidiac? She went to Spain but then came back. W-League needs to be seen for what it is - now that the US-Australian switch between seasons is weaker, it's a feeder comp.

Also by the 2nd half of that game (vs Sweden) with Kerr having played so many minutes in the tournament and coming in under an injury cloud, we probably didn't have the option of interchanging Kerr out wide and sticking someone like Gielnik with her height in the centre for those long balls we were sending up there.

Been a fan of Raso ever since her Canberra United days but she surely can't continue to be a starting international player given how bad her first touch and ball control is?

Ironically, the player that replaced Raso at Canberra United and at Portland Thorns is faster and more multi dimensional than Raso but is nowhere near the USWNT. Raso has not improved like she threatened to do so a couple of years ago since moving to Everton.

I would be ditching Luik (who I think has already announced her retirement from international football), Logarzo, Polkinghorne, and Williams from the current squad. Fowler and Cooney-Cross should be given starts. Look at the likes of Dylan Holmes, Beatie Goad and a few of the other players that were in consideration for the Olympics but didn't make it.

Kennedy maring again

I don't know how that wasn't a foul
